A depressing read

I listened to this as a audible book and I'm afraid I only got to the half way point before I gave up and skipped to the end. This was when a new seemingly damaged character was introduced and frankly the thought of another eight hours of misery was too much for me. I appreciate that this was intended as a dark story but I don't normally avoid this kind of genre. The problem for me was that this just came across as a prolonged howl of anguish where nothing seemed to be moving forward and in the end I became frustrated and just stopped caring about the characters. .

Brilliant! Kept me guessing all the way through.

A long book with twists and turns but very enjoyable. It does take a little while to get started but, then there are so many changes and revelations you can't put it down!! The narrators voice is very good too. Would recommend!

Great listen!

What does Adjoa Andoh bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you had only read the book?

I have listened to Adjoa narrate many books. She is possibly the best narrator I have heard (and I have heard a lot)! She is word perfect, with an amazing ability to voice a wide range of characters to the highest standard. Her voice is warm and so easy to listen to.

Any additional comments?

This is simply another beautifully written, complex and rich story by Dorothy Koomson. She never disapoints.

I usually love Dorothy Koomson but ...

I usually love Dorothy Koomson but listening to this as an audio book was not exactly a relaxing experience. I can't say I enjoyed it. Maybe I would have enjoyed it more if I'd read it as a normal book. But listening to it - well, it felt like more doom, gloom and anger than an episode of Eastenders.

Very good

I found the first part quite hard to listen to, there was a lot peoples feelings! Once the major event happened and lies unravelled it really got addictive. I felt a hole when it finished and I would of loved to of found out how their lives continued.

A Story to Make Your Heart Ache

The opening of this story made my mouth go dry. Tami's fear and the need to protect her family a heart stopping journey. The quandary of how a world is upturned and how strong female characters cope.
Adjoa Andoh again enhances the book with her understated narration.

Something to happen without all the charecters agonising over their heartbreak about it

The performance was good

You didn’t love this book--but did it have any redeeming qualities?

Any additional comments?

If you like loving, heartache and soul searching this could be the book for you. There's shedloads of it. Otherwise, don't go near it

Good Listen

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

I would recommend this book, it was well read and the voice and diction perfectly fitted the story. It was a good storyline which held the interest with lots of twists and turns. Just when you thought you had it sorted it changed track.

What did you like best about this story?

I liked the way it gripped you from the first chapter and made you want to listen more. It helped pass the time whilst I was doing a very boring painting job.

Have you listened to any of Adjoa Andoh’s other performances? How does this one compare?

I have not listened to any of Adjoa other performances but I would like to.

Any additional comments?

Generally a good listen and I would like to try another by the same author and reader.

Really hard work...

Kept listening but couldn't get into it at all , so much so that I'd drift away and miss chunks so kept having to go back , very irritating !
