Summary

In 1920 Charles Ponzi perfected a “rob Peter to pay Paul” investment scam and stole millions of dollars from unsuspecting, gullible investors. As a result of his illegal activities Ponzi spent most of his adult years in an American prison. Upon release Ponzi was deported to Italy where he became associated with the Italian dictator Benito Mussolini.

Eventually Ponzi lost his government job and landed in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, where he died on a charity ward in 1949. It was reported that the only item Ponzi left behind on his nightstand was his autobiography. In his own words Charles Ponzi tells the story of how he came to America, dreamed up his scheme, and perfected the now infamous Ponzi scheme still used today by other famous swindlers like Bernie Madoff.

The Rise of Mr. Ponzi was privately published over 50 years ago and copies of that earlier edition are quite rare, if not impossible to find. The release of this audio version is the first time Charles Ponzi’s book has been professionally produced for a large listening audience. It is an amazing journey into the mind of the world's most famous swindler.
