Summary
Mila and her husband Ethan are on their way to her sister’s wedding at a luxurious ski resort. As they drive through the mountains, surrounded by snow covered forests, Mila feels like everything is finally going to plan.
When the car engine suddenly stops and won’t start again.
Stranded, with night closing in, they make their way on foot back to where they saw a sign for some cabins.
When they finally reach them, they find the windows boarded up and the buildings in disrepair. They have the eerie sense they shouldn’t be there.
With snow falling more heavily, they have no choice but to break into one to spend the night.
In the morning when Mila wakes, Ethan is gone.
Now she is all alone.
Or is she?
A totally gripping and spine-tingling psychological thriller with twists and turns that will leave you breathless. Fans of The Sanatorium, The Hunting Party and The Castaways will be completely hooked from the start until the final, shocking conclusion.

Spooky Winter Wonderland of Thrills!
I am a big fan of Sarah Goodwin after reading and thoroughly loving "Stranded" and being about to scoop up "13th Girl" befor literally stumbling across "The Resort". I am always checking my favourite author's pages in the hopes of a "coming soon" which I can preorder ... but this one somehow managed to get by me!
I have also listened to a few audiobooks narrated by Imogen Wilde and enjoyed them but I have to sadly say narration is a stumbling block in this one - not sure actually how much can be blamed on Imogen Wilde and how much the production but there are vast gaps between sentences and particularly chapters. Thrilled with discovering this hidden gem by Sarah Goodwin I snuggled up in bed to listen to it and just when I was beginning to relax .... ooops a gap. I kept picking up my ipad to see if I had yanked the headphones out, or had the recording stopped and it was super jarring.
Either the productio/narration improves or I got used to the over long gaps and stop start nature of the read but eventually I did settle in to it but I feel this is something that can still be easily fixed in post production so hoping Audible may put a call in as it really is very annoying.
Mila is a quite unlikeable character, so generally I am not sure if it is the excess of air left in the read or the grating, ever chirpy, spoilt younger sister persona which rubbed me up the wrong way - but if I feel like this might have been a far better read than listen.
It is however, thanks to the superb writing and genius plot still a fabulous thriller and talented storytelling I soon got so absorbed in it that the narration and whatever production issues stopped niggling and I enjoyed 100%.
I usually prefer my location thrillers to be all about sun, sand and turquoise waters .... but something about "The Resort" is just so magical and mysterious and reminds me a tiny bit of "The Village" by M. Night Shayamalan in its claustrophobia. other worldliness and ramping tension.
In a world where it is so hard to find a top notch thriller written with real skill and verve, this is a real winner.

Really Enjoyed listening to this book
Great story, kept me hooked from the start, relatable, likable characters, narrated well, easy to follow and kept me guessing all the way through.
Worth a listen.

One of the worst audio books I ever listened to
The storyline had so many holes, that it’s impossible to pick the worst clangers. The author constantly has to explain the ridiculous decisions her characters are making, because they make no sense.
The drawn out explanations about the relationship between the two sisters still bring no sense to the ludicrous behaviour of the main character. Wait to let your sister’s wedding go ahead before you report a serious crime to the police.
The main character walks around for hours in trainers and leggings in a snow storm without suffering from hypothermia or losing toes to frostbite,
The narrator’s voice just wasn’t for me, but that’s taste. Having said that it is always advisable to ask a native speaker when you pronounce foreign words. Kriminalpolizei is not pronounced “Criminaler Polizzi” for example.
A total mess.

Regret listening til the end
I listened to the first few chapters and thought the book was rubbish, however after going back to read the reviews, I thought I should stick with it. I really wished I hadn’t. The story was utterly ridiculous.

Disappointing
The narration of the book was excellent, and I thought it was a very good story.
However, the constant moaning of Amelia, putting herself down, constant self pity became very wearing.
In my opinion ruined a good story.

Best narration of best book I’ve listened to
Finally! A narrator that can read thriller without getting that pressured and shrill tone that makes it overly stressful. The story was unique and kept me interested throughout! It’s something different and unique for the genre. I recommend!

Wow just wow, this was a good listen
I loved the use of imagery, it made it felt so real. Pleasantly surprised, I picked this story solely based off the title. Really kept me engaged, listened in one day!

Totally missed the mark
This story had so much potential. There was nothing gripping me. It truly be made you think something was going to happen then would redundantly fizzle out. And can’t figure out why the title of this book is “the Resort” when it had very little at all to do with the resort . Failed on many levels. Oh and the German accent is cringe- worthy bad!

So much potential!
This could have been such a good mystery/suspense. Unfortunately the scenes kept falling flat. They started off strong then tapered. Obviously momentum is stalled with this but so is interest. Dialogue also became repetitive. I think with some really strong editing this book could be amazing. It’s unrealistic to believe Mila can navigate unknown areas in complete darkness but then find another passage from a shadow. Had she come upon candles and matches as she first entered that would have been believable and added to the creep factor plus credibility to the shadow/tunnel.
Narration helped the story!

Addendum…
I just wrote my review but did forget to say the story did have some twists and turns, but when i thought I figured out the culprit, i had to change my thinking. It was so worth the read to the ending! Well done.

Very Enjoyable. Atmospheric & Captivating
Best thriller I've read in a while. Not predictable, and not because the author didn't give enough information, nor because she threw out red herrings, but because it was just well written. There were even a couple times when I almost considered the twist, but dismissed it because the clues just didn't quite seem significant enough. In hindsight, they were just significant enough when added up, but no one clue alone would have given it away.
I usually don't give domestic thrillers 5 stars, and this one isn't QUITE 5, but it's solid enough to be a 4.5, and I'd rather round up than down because I enjoyed it that much.

Oddly repetitious…
… like a sophomore lit student trying to make the word count on an essay. The sisters plot was heartwarming, but there are better who/how dunnits.

Slow, Predictable and Anti-Climactic
Literally had it figured out in the first 20 minutes. The rest of it was achingly slow. Once it “climaxed” I still was waiting for the other shoe to drop and some smart plot twist to appear - it didn’t. Unnecessary threads introduced that did nothing to serve the plot. Yet another clueless, naïve simpering female lead with no self esteem. Narration underlined the last point, and was distractingly bad when doing the German detective voice.
