One for fans of the grotesque

An interesting novel that at times is surreal and bizarre leaving the listener just as bewildered and uneasy as the characters. This, of course, adds to the creeping dread that slowly builds throughout the plot. There are also plenty of visceral sequences to whet the appetite of the more gore inclined too. I personally enjoyed the first two thirds of plot but didn't quite connect with the last third as the various storylines converged and the mysteries laid bare (endings are so hard to write). That said, for a debut novel it shows a lot of promise and I look forward to further works by this author.

Nigel Peever's performance is superb and his use of FX enhances the overall experience. If you're not familiar with any of his narrations you will be amazed at his range of character voices showcased here and that's just a small sample of his capabilities.

Was a great listen

Amazing story and narrator he did the story real justice and the us eof sound effects is always very welcome with me the story did seem to ebb off into sometimes young adult but it quickly came back to a adult horror flow quickly not to mention it's set in a small English town that was a very nice change now time to start book 2

A chilling horror which gathers pace

An excellent novel which is full of suspense and an interesting, engaging and chilling plot. The characters in the book are well developed and I was hooked after the first chapter. Nigel Peever’s narration is first class - he really brings the characters to life and the sound effects are well placed and convincing. Having listened to a number of Nigel’s adaptions - he is definitely a rising star in the world of audiobooks! As for further work by Jonathan Wheatley - I look forward to reading and hearing more. Well done to both author and narrator - highly recommended!

Great book

This was a really great listen, the narrator was excellent he kept me riveted right the way through.
I love the concept of the story, with strange creatures and the knight Templar , it was exciting and creepy as well as interesting, I didn’t find it scary though, but that’s a good thing as I stayed up all night listening lol
I would highly recommend this book as it’s very well written and read extremely well.

British horror

This is a great horror story but what brings it alive is the narration. I don't normally like sound effects on an audiobook but they are very well done here. Would highly recommend it.

Weird

A weird but decent book about a person who wakes up every day in a different body. I found this quite enjoyable due to the narration brining the story to you and making it flow perfectly.

The Priory.

This is an interesting story By Jonathan Wheatley, the first of his that I have listened to. It is well written with a wealth of well developed and unusual characters, told in 3 parts it keeps you on the edge of your seat from start to finish. The narration is excellent as would be expected from Nigel Peever with his appropriate use of sound effects it all adds up to a jolly good listening experience. Highly Recommended.
I was kindly given a copy of the book by the narrator and leave this honest review.

The sound effects were off putting

I was gifted an audible copy in return for an honest review.

I found the story interesting although it took me a little to get into. The narrator was good, however I found the sound effects to be a bit much and at time deducted from to story - perhaps part of the reason I struggled to get into the story at the beginning was the random bird song, traffic noise and others. I would be interested in relistening with the noises removed as I think I would follow the story better.
