Summary
Brought to you by Penguin.
I stood at the start of the new year feeling renewed, thinking that having got through the challenges of I'm a Celebrity. I had survived the toughest experience of my life, faced my worst fears and thrived. Surely 2020 would be a breeze. How wrong I was. It hadn't been anything close to the toughest experience of my life. My biggest challenge was just around the corner, and it was, for the most part, going to take place in my own home.
In March 2020, Kate Garraway's husband, Derek Draper, contracted COVID-19 and was placed in a medically induced coma. Initially, Kate was told that he would not survive. Still in hospital and in a critical condition, he is thought to be the UK's longest-fighting COVID-19 patient.
In this intimate book, Kate shares her deeply personal story. As well as recounting how the illness took hold of their lives, she writes about how she is coping with the uncertainty of their future, how she's supporting her children through this traumatic time, how she has found strength in community and how she strives to hold on to hope even at the darkest of times. COVID-19 has affected everyone across the country in so many ways, and Kate hopes that by revealing her own personal experience, it will give comfort to others. By sharing the lessons she has learnt along the way, it will help us all begin to try to rebuild our lives.
Kate's exceptional courage, positivity and warmth shine through on every page, making The Power of Hope a truly inspiring story that will resonate with all of us whose lives continue to be touched by the virus.

Wonderfully written & read
I cannot impress enough how amazingly strong and brave Kate was and still his during this crisis. Having gone through similar emotions when my husband was gravely ill I was able to relate to all her feelings. Well done Kate, my husband is still here after 18yrs and I have no doubt Derek will be too, never give up hope!!

Spoiled by the acting .
I followed the story as it happened usually on the news . I hated the narration - I wish it had been told by somebody else because it was too loud and shouty . I wish Derek all the best in his recovery .
I gave up I’m sorry to say

What an incredibly moving & emotional book. So brave of Kate to tell her story of the tragedy that has effected her & her family.
Narrated with so much raw emotion. It’s a superb book & something that so many people should read or listen to. Her ongoing strength, courage & hope are truly inspirational . Well done Kate, I wish you & your family all the best xx

Honesty & Belief is a powerful Combination
This book is very moving on so many levels.
Kate is honest & open regarding what her family have & are still face together.
She brings some humour to an otherwise very serious, heart breaking & sad story.
I personally spent 3 months in hospital a few years ago & there were a number of occasions when it was thought that I wouldn’t make it.
I know the cost to my family, standing by helplessly watching the doctors do their best not to mention the years of recovery when I left hospital. My heart goes out to you Kate & your lovely kids & believe me being able to see my wife & kids every day while I was going through my personal nightmare was all the incentive that I needed to fight back - NEVER GIVE UP!
