About this listen

When a customer of William Doughty's Bayswater chemist shop dies of strychnine poisoning after drinking medicine he dispensed, William is blamed, and the family faces ruin.

William's daughter, Frances, determines to redeem her ailing father's reputation and save the business. She soon becomes convinced that the death was murder, and, unable to persuade the police, she turns detective. Armed with only her wits, courage and determination, Frances uncovers a startling deception and solves a 10-year-old murder. There will be more deaths, and a secret in her own family will be revealed before the killer is unmasked, and Frances will find that her life has changed forever.

Beatifully written and beautiully read

What about Emma Powell’s performance did you like?

Her voicing of the characters worked well for me and brought an already engaging story even more to life.

Any additional comments?

I have read the print books in this series more than once and am delighted that has been so beautifully performed in audio form. Hopefully the rest of the series will follow in audio format.

Very enjoyable

I loved this book and the characters. A young Edwardian girl is forced by circumstances to turn detective and clear her father's name. There are many layers and sub plots that add to the richness of the book.. I had read this series of books many years
ago and decided to try the audio version. The narrator is excellent and captures the essence of the times very well

I hope they continue with the series on audible
