Summary

When German intelligence officer Captain Reinhardt is reassigned to a new branch of the military police, his position separates him from the allies he has made. This includes a circle of fellow dissenting Germans who formed a resistance cell against the Nazis.

Reinhardt witnesses a massacre of civilians in Yugoslavia, only to discover there is more to the incident than anyone believes. When five mutilated bodies turn up, he knows the stakes are growing more important - and more dangerous....

"An utterly credible picture of a place and time, and a complex, exceptional character in action." ( Crime Review)

An interesting take

The narration was good and I enjoyed the story which came at it from a mostly new angle ie it used a Feldjäger officer as the main character fomenting rarely if ever done but from the more familiar angle of a dissatisfied and disillusioned soldier of the Third Reich. But the setting of Yugoslavia was again a new angle, decent plot, well paced, twists and turns.
