Summary

Best seller The Oyster Catcher is Jo Thomas' first irresistibly feel-good audiobook, set on the coast of Ireland.

Dooleybridge, County Galway: the last place Fiona Clutterbuck expects to end up, alone, on her wedding night. But after the words 'I do' have barely left her mouth, that's exactly where she is - with only her sequinned shoes and a crashed camper van for company.

One thing is certain: Fi can't go back. So when the opportunity arises to work for a brooding local oyster farmer, Sean Thornton, she jumps at the chance. Now Fi must navigate suspicious locals, jealous rivals and an unpredictable boss if she's to find a new life, and love, on the Irish coast. And nothing - not even a chronic fear of water - is going to hold her back.

Join Fi as she learns the rules of the ocean - and picks up a few pearls of Irish wisdom along the way....

Light and too sweet.

The story was light and quite sweet, which did not take too much concentration.

The annoying aspect was the repetition in regard to the description of the weather. The story took place during the summer months in Ireland, where rain is no stranger. However it rained and rained and rained with more rain, all types of rain. At the end of the story the sun shone for the first time in months. oh so cheesy and sweet.

One of the best I've listened to.

Really good story , will listen to more by this author. Though I enjoyed it I did think here we go again, both Fi and Shaun seemed to mess up , and I found myself shouting ' Just tell him ' , things would go wrong because Fi especially, would not speak up for herself. But great story with atmosphere, or Craic!
Towards the end there was a woman with a cardiff accent, which was definitely not a cardiff accent ! As I lived there ! Really reccomend this book.

brilliant

Thoroughly enjoyed the book. Easy listening with an engaging plot, some fab characters and a bit of romance with a happy ending. Beautifully written and read.

Loved this book!

I really enjoyed this book by Jo
Thomas and look forward to reading/listening to more books by her. I disagree with some reviewers remarks on the narration. I thought Katy Sobey did a good job capturing the voices of the different characters and brought them to life.

Disappointing

Chose this book after reading Escape to the French farmhouse.
Found this story uninteresting and the characters boring apart from Freddy the donkey.
A waste of a credit.

Annoying reader

Goodness this reader is annoying! Almost every sentence is delivered in the same tone, ending on a jarring note. It reminds me of the audio-description you get on television for the partially sighted, with its flat monotone. I think the story’s ok, but it’s hard to tell. She does the characters’ voices ok, even seems to cope with the Irish accents (I’m not Irish, so maybe not the best judge). But everything in between is annoying me so much I feel like giving up on it. Trouble is, I keep thinking it will get better once she settles in. It doesn’t.
