High heels, movie deals, wagon wheels, shoes, reviews, having the blues, builders, babies, families and other calamities... Refreshing
Normally I get very irritated with switching back and forth between characters, but not with this one. It was clearly announced that you were about to change characters, which helps, and whats more I liked all of them fairly well, but especially Jojo. So thoroughly enjoyable, and what a shanannigans (how do you spell that?) is life in the publishing world!

A really good listen!
This is the first Marian Keyes book that I have listened to. I was a bit wary at 15 CD's to burn but I have to say by the end of the book, I really didn't want it to end! The narrator was fantastic! I really liked all of the characters in the book and it was a real pleasure to sit and listen whilst on long trips in the car! The characters were believeable and the book was funny, emotional and brilliant all at the same time. I will be getting more Marian books in the near future, especially if Geri Hallighan is reading them! I can reccomend!

Catchy good read.
Over all a good book. Not one of her best, but still great to listen too. Got a bit confusing in places due to there being 3 stories running at the same time, but easy to find where your at and which story your in.
All in all a good read / listen.

A real many layered treat just like a tasty pastry
Marian Keyes for me is always hot and miss - I adored "The Mystery of Mercy Close" and "The Woman who stole my life" - very much enjoyed "Angels", "This Charming Man", "Sushi for Beginners" and "Rachel's Holiday" - which I read rather than listened too - and thought the film of "Watermelon" with Anna Friel was very enjoyable ........ so when I started to get into the many joys of audiobooks, I thought that this would be the perfect Marriage - but not so - I found "The Break" so uninspiring that it put me off Marian Keyes completely - that and the scathing reviews of "Under the Duvet".
So when I saw "The Other Side Of the Story" on offer in the £3 sale I was torn but as the synopsis looked so intriguing, I would give it a go. At first I was very put off by the sometimes bizarre and constantly shifting Irish accentsof Gemma and her Mammy which seemed to span the entire 32 counties on a whim. There was a lot of talk of Muthas and Bruthas, Moy instead of My and Tie instead of Toy - which I grant you may be the way the words are pronounced in some acccents ... just not the accent that the rest of the sentence was voiced in ..... ANNOYING and DISTRACTING!!!
Then as the story switched to the American born JoJo it was tolerable, her boss Mark was very well voiced as was Lily and Anton - who seemed to hail from Northern Ireland. There even were Scottish accents that seemed fine to me and a pleasant English narrator as well.
So very many accents I began to think there were a few different actors narrating the various characters - but no just the one very versatile Gerri Halligan who I googled but could not tell where she came from though on the strengths of her accents and the way Gemma and her mother were so inconsistently voiced I would guess she is not Irish.
For some reason also in the Gemma sections she also sounded like she had a mouthful of saliva at times and other times it sounded more like she had just taken a spoonful of porridge - so I would give her 1 star for the Gemma and mother narration and 4 stars for the rest as it was very enjoyable.
I mention the narration first as honestly it was the only thing I had to complain about. It is a great book told from three different angles and thus it is so cleverly written that it is three different stories all woven together.
I really enjoyed the insight into publishing, literary agents and of course the tortured life of the writer which Marian knows so much about.
I loved it and had Gemma and Mother not been in parts such a cringy read I would have given it 5 stars - I might just be back as a Marian Keyes fan again and try another audiobook as this was a real treat, light, funny, witty and so very engaging and intelligent. Recommended when you feel like a relaxing, frothy, amusing and easy to hop aboard listen.

Great Story. Wonderful narration
I read this book many years ago but had forgotten most of it, Lily was the only character which had stayed with me. I always enjoy Marian Keyes books, they take you on a journey with The characters without being sickly sweet or predictable. The narrator brings the book alive with all the different voices. I will be looking for more audio books narrated by Gerri Halligan.

I don’t normally leave bad reviews....
But on this occasion I must say that this book isn’t terrible, the narration isn’t bad either, it’s just that it’s so boring! I just looked to see his much longer I had to go and seeing there was still 5 hours left I have thrown in the towel! Very unlike me and obviously reading other reviews the majority of readers love it. It must be me but sorry I was rather losing the will to live with this one.

Great story, dodgy Scottish accent
I really enjoyed the story and the info about the book world. Jojo was a great character and I occasionally wanted to give Lily a slap but looked forward to my next instalment. Gerry Halligan reads very well with great English and Irish accents but should avoid Scottish accents whenever possible.

This kept cropping up and I ignored it for a while as I wasn't sure it sounded very interesting. But I found the different story lines running alongside each other worked really well. Not one dull moment. I loved all the characters and the narrator was perfect.

Confusing
This book wasn’t for you, but who do you think might enjoy it more?
Someone who has plenty of time to read might find this book enjoyable, I found it confusing the way it jumped around from person to person. I read while I'm on public transport and have to stop when I get to my destination and quite often found it hard to pick up again. If I just had time to sit and read at my leisure I may have been able to follow more easily.
What do you think your next listen will be?
I've just ordered a Bryce Courtney book - Fortune Cookie.
Would you listen to another book narrated by Gerri Halligan?
Yes I would, I didn't have a problem with the narration.
You didn’t love this book... but did it have any redeeming qualities?
Not really, it was quite predictable. Everyone fitted into their slots at the end a little too tidily.
Any additional comments?
I have read several Marian Keyes books and have enjoyed them and will try her again.

Real characters and real lives.
Loved this story. I was totally immersed in each persons life and kept jumping ship as far as who’s side I was on. Of course there were no sides and just real life with all it’s warts and silk purses. Great writing. Fabulous narration.
