Summary

The inspiration for evil may hold the key to murder in this edge-of-your-seat story from Mystery Writers of America Grand Master Jeffery Deaver.

Life appears to imitate art when a series of sadistic murders grips the city. Investigating the carefully orchestrated killings, Detective Gene Tripp and his partner discover that the perp might have been inspired by the best-selling novels and stories of popular thriller author Brody Pierce. Or has the demon of writer’s block driven Brody himself to step over the line between fiction and reality and exploit the dark side of his imagination?

As the detectives race to uncover the truth before more people die, they learn that perhaps yet another boundary has been crossed:

That between real life and the supernatural.

Short

Not too bad for a short story but a short story for Jeffrey Deaver does not really work, he is better at writing proper novels, but this one was free in the included.
It was worth a listen.

Just brilliant

Twists, turns & a mind twisting plot. Thoroughly believable, yet simultaneously unbelievable to the average non-believer…

"I have this idea...

A short (about two and one third hours in length) murder mystery which is intriguing a nd keeps the reader guessing almost to the end. Not deep characterisation but enough to make the protagonists stand out vividly. A
Narration by Dan Bittner is excellent: well paced and with great inflection and voice differentiation. Short stories are rarely as satisfying as full length novels but this one is pretty good.

Great short story

I really enjoyed this short story. Especially the ending. There was a good twist that wasn’t the one I expected.

The Muse

A Jeffrey Deaver mini classic. A definite must read. Deaver is one of The Greats. Fantastic narration too. Brilliant ending. Well and truly worth your time.

Fantastic

Like a modern day Edgar Allan Poe! I really enjoyed it, never saw the twist coming. Short but great.

If Edgar Allan Poe Was Alive Today.......

If Edgar Allan Poe was alive today I feel sure that he would give a five star review of his fellow Virginian's story

A superb novella with a brilliant twist. I hope that JD is contemplating a sequel novel to outline the outcome of the Daily Herald bulletin.

Not for me

So disappointing. The best part of this book was the totally unexpected ending, and of course, the fact it was the end.
