Summary
A human elemental desperate to save her home. A dark fae guardian devoted to his lord. A deadly bridal competition that will test both their loyalty.
Rosalie is sold to the magistrate of Farrow's Gate to compete in a marriage competition. If she wins, her home is saved. If she loses, she'll be forced to work off her family's debt in an undisclosed location.
But the magistrate won't just marry any human. He wants a mate whose magic rivals his own, and Rosalie can't ever reveal just how powerful she is. In the world of Saol, magic is regulated, and if the Magi Council discover what she is, it won't just be her life at risk.
Her only chance of escape is with the magistrate's bodyguard, Baine: a dark, too-handsome fae, and one who has no interest in helping a human girl.
Until one night in the moonlit woods when everything changes, and suddenly Rosalie is torn between what she wants and what is right.
Losing the competition means death, winning means the death of others, and Rosalie is out of time. If she doesn't choose soon, someone will do it for her.
The Moonlit Woods is a stand-alone fantasy romance within the Shifting Fae world perfect for listeners looking for epic fantasy, a slow-burn romance, fast-paced action, and a happily ever after.

FAE and dark shadows
A different telling of the Fae. Has mages and dark shadow world figures. A human elemental is tricked by a troll in competing for the lord of Farrows Gate bride to be. All the human Rosalie wants is to save her fire hawks. The winner in the contest must have the greatest power which she has but hides it because she thinks it will mean her death. The story is about her trials and wishes, and meeting the Lord’s Main guardian, who she falls for. There was no sex scenes. All in all it has a good storyline and good ending. Want to read the next in the series.

Great plot
Rosalie is in a difficult situation. Her parents are gone, her twin brother joined the war and has not been heard from since, and she has been left alone to look after the animals and family business. However, her land has been blighted by plague and she must look for funds and help to look after the only thing left of her family. In her plight to get help, Rosalie ends up in the clutches of a mysterious Magistrate who is seeking to wed a woman of powerful magic. She is collared, trapped and resorts to asking for help to escape from a Dark Fae, but his allegiance is to the Magistrate. The odds are against Rosalie, but she does everything in her power to escape.
This story has a great plot however, it was subjected to some very corny and awkward narrative. Some of the corniness is due to the narration. I wasn't a fan of the narrator's female voice, it would have been better if the author had dual male/female narrators. The repetitive, random descriptions of Rosalie's breasts was a bit odd and didn't add anything to the story. Good characters on the surface but they didn't have much depth to them.
Overall I enjoyed the story, thought it was creative, but felt a few things prevented it from being a great audiobook.
I was given this book for free of my own choosing and I voluntarily left this review.

Do you take this debt relief
This is kind of like if there a was a magical version of the bachelor and instead of a rose your debts are forgiven.
I don’t know what my expectations were going into this book. I think I saw Fae and assumed steamy good times were ahead. I was wrong. It’s very closed door but in a sleazy way. So from that every thing about the book just kind of falls flat. The FMC is so powerful but really does nothing with it. I feel like half her personality was her rocking boobs. It’s really all that gave her any dimension. There is some drama, some action and some tension but it’s unevenly paced. It feels like it all built up to the last minutes and even that wasn’t as full filling as I wish it would have been. I wish the book would have leaned all the way into being middle grade or all the way into being for adults. It’s just in this limbo that left me wanting more. More angst, more tension, more action, more resolution, more character building. Just more.
The narration just like the overall experience is perfectly fine.
I would recommend this for fantasy fans that are not a girl not yet a woman,

Didn’t love narrator of fmc being a man :/
I liked the book. The plot was interesting. But I didn’t feel connected to it. I don’t know if it was because I didn’t super vibe with the narrator or not. I think I would’ve liked it better if the narrator was different. I didn’t love the fmc being narrator with a male voice. It’s super small but it took me a minute to get use too and I think it’s why I didn’t feel as connected to it.

Good story
Story was good i especially liked how the story started caught my attention right away. I will read the the next book, but it was hard for me to switch between MMC and the FMC in the story due to narrator telling the story. I love audible but this narrator didn’t do it for me I was gifted this audible from the author for an honest review.

The worst audiobook I have ever heard
It’s just bad. Poor writing, poor story and poor acting performance. I really wanted to like this book, but it is a waste of precious moments of your life.

I loved this story
An evil man with evil intentions holds a contest of sorts to pick a wife. As the women demonstrate their powers with the hope they will be chosen, the man plans their fates. Rosalie ended up in this contes with the hopes of having her debt paid off & saving her firehawks. As the so called competition progressed she realized she didnt want to win because she developed feelings for another. A wonderful read filled with monsters, magic and hope.

Quick Read
Though this book didn't follow the normal fantasy style of details and character depth, I thought it was entertaining.
I plan to continue the series and look forward to discovering more about the characters.
Did not enjoy the male narrator. I feel it would have been better with dual narration.

Wonderful audio book
The narrator is amazing. Love when a single narrator has distinctive voices for each character that makes it easy to know who is talking. This one is a dual pov and when listening to Rosalie's chapters vs Baine's chapters I had to keep reminding myself that it was one person doing all of this. absolutely wonderful job.
definitely recommend this audio book it only adds to the book and helps bring you into the story and get lost in the book

Fae - human romance
Loved it! Once I started listen (audio version) I did not want to stop. Great story line and well-developed characters. Some light romance, but kept clean. I thoroughly enjoyed it. The book cover is beautiful.
I admit, I kept expecting Rosalie to use her power to take off the collar. I like that the story was not so predictive. I would like to know more about how their powers affected the dark side, and monsters in the end. I guess that is for the next story.
I received a free copy of this book, and am voluntarily leaving my honest review.
