About this listen
From best-selling author of The $100 Startup and Side Hustle comes Chris Guillebeau's engaging story about the power you have to create your own financial destiny.
Like financial classics The Latte Factor and The Richest Man in Babylon, The Money Tree uses a compelling story with captivating characters to share its core insight: You are never at the mercy of fortune as long as you have an appetite for hard work and a willingness to step outside your comfort zone.
Jake Aarons is in trouble. He's being evicted from his apartment in less than 30 days, the bill for his $50,000 in overdue student loans is almost due, and the digital marketing agency he works at just implemented a new military-style grading system that might cost him his job. To top it off, Jake's new relationship with Maya was going so well...but with everything else falling down around him, he might lose her, too.
In search of answers, Jake reluctantly attends a weekly group meeting at the invitation of a coworker. Everyone in the group is trying to create a lucrative side hustle with one key requirement: They can only spend up to $500 before earning a profit. Over the course of several weeks, Jake undertakes a series of challenges, first learning how to make $1,000 in a single weekend, and ultimately how to discover the untapped skills he needs to take control of his finances - and his life.

Using great story-telling to inspire us
Chris Guillebeau uses story-telling brilliantly to inspire us with the message that we can all do more than we think. I’ve long been a fan of his other books and podcasts, and telling real-life stories has always been part of what he does so well - but this book does it differently. It takes the form of an easily enjoyable story centered around the protagonist Jake and the journey he makes from rock bottom. Perfect if you’ve read one too many self-help books and are looking for something different.

Refreshingly different
I can not recollect reading a business book that resonated so much with me. The storytelling is great. It made me connect on all levels. Dont take my word for it. Listen to it. I did and for the first time on Audible, I am giving my first review after 100 books!

Amazing Read!
Since I'm also a writer who loves stories to understand complex structures, I totally enjoyed listening to the Money Tree book. I truly appreciate the work it takes to write the bok; I tell you, it ain't an easy feat. I'm writing something along the same line on how to be a better writer.
I'm definitely going through it again to extract the ideas I've thought of as I read it. And I'm printing out the Third Way manifesto.
This gives me the propelling I need to read his other 2 books sitting idle on my bookshelf; The side hustle and the $100 start up ( I started this but didn't finish)
Thank you, Chris for writing the Money Tree. It's an amazing book that needs to get into the hands of more readers.

What is this about?
Rather lost listening to this strange tale of an indebted graduate selling university textbooks. What on earth have I spent three hours listening to?
