About this listen
Desperate times lead to hasty vows... A gripping regency mystery for fans of Eve Chase, Louise Douglas and Tracy Rees.
For better. For worse.
For the sake of her future.
London 1815. Jenny's father is dead. She needs to marry immediately to save her and her mother's livelihood.
A chance meeting presents the perfect candidate in the form of the enigmatic Erasmus Black. Gentleman, merchant, and if the rumours are to be believed, captain...
But where does Erasmus slip away to in the dead of night? What secrets about her father's business has he discovered? And was their meeting really just a convenient coincidence?
Guided by her unique intuition, Jenny must seek the hidden forces in play to unravel a sinister web of corruption...without getting trapped herself.

Wow what a story
This is the type of book where you are desperate to find out what happens next, but at the same time you never want the story to end! I do hope this is the first in the series as I’m not ready to say goodbye to these characters ❤️

Fantastic storytelling can’t wait for book 3!
Highly recommend this read. I really enjoyed book 1. The link through to this book was great and the story itself as good if not better, even more so for being inspired/highlighting the ongoing issues we still have in the world today. I cannot wait for the next book. Both the previous and this reader were perfectly suited to the dialogue. Bring on book 3, I will be preordering…

muddled characterisation
the main character slips between aristocratic to a Bristolian burr which is confusing and makes it difficult to remain within the story.

The story is fascinating…BUT …
The author does a great job in research and putting plots together UNFORTUNATELY the whole book here on audio is spoilt by the narrator- as she has no idea how to use her voice to identify voices - which makes listening difficult…
No change in voice between men or woman or the actual text of the story…
This is why I would not recommend this book …
