About this listen

Find out how to live a long and happy life thanks to the ikigai miracle.

Japanese men's longevity ranks 4th in the world, while Japanese women's ranks 2nd. Perhaps this comes as no surprise when you know that the Japanese understanding of ikigai is embedded in daily life, careers, relationships, and hobbies.

Neuroscientist and bestselling Japanese writer Ken Mogi shares personal insight and scientific research to provide a colourful narrative of Japanese culture and history along the way.

He identifies five key pillars to ikigai:
1: Starting small
2: Releasing yourself
3: Harmony and sustainability
4: The joy of little things
5:Being in the here and now

Find fulfilment, joy and mindfulness in everything you do with the ikigai way.©2017 Ken Mogi (P)2017 Quercus Editions Limited

Nothing too earth shatteringly new here if you’ve read anything about personal development and positive orientation on life before. All sensible stuff though and you do learn some interesting things about Japanese culture along the way.

A short audio book, however it does remind us to consider the small things in life and take pleasure in those pursuits.
Also nice to learn about a few subjects such as Sumo which I may not otherwise have done.

A worthy listen

Excellent insight into the Japanese culture and their philosophy to find the reason for being/ find purpose in life.

Its an easy quicky listen in between reading, you can finish it in a couple of hours.

Interesting and eye-opening to read and learn more about the Japanese life style.

The book explains the 5 pillars to Ikigai and gives so much explanation for each one of them. It also explains why the Okinawan population live among the longest in the world.

I devoured this book in two sittings. It was beautifully read, concise and really well structured. Who wouldn’t want Ikigai in their life. Make improvements in small steps, with no ego, and awareness for harmony and sustainability whilst getting joy in small things and being in the moment. Brilliant!

Delightful Read

This is my very time reading (listening to?) an audiobook so let me write a small review on the app first. Audible is very simple and friendly to use. As an English learner, I found this very nice to train my listening skills. I’ll definitely continue using this app and see how it works. The book was well-made as well. One day he talked in the radio “My next goal is writing a book in English” and now, it comes true. This book is mainly written about Japanese culture presented by the neuroscientist Ken Mogi, so there are many unique perceptions for even Japanese people like me. There are so many things to learn, and now I’m really looking forward to his future work on English books.

There are probably more detailed books about ikigai going even deeper into Japanese history and culture, but the fact that this book is light and captivating is exactly what I love about it. Matt Addis does a great job at narrating, it's pleasure to listen to him, and Ken Mogi wrote book that not only brings us closer to the Japanese culture ans philosophy, but occasionally compares it to the Western world.

Informative and captivating

Read in a calm and reassuring manner, this little book could form the basis for transforming an otherwise fruitless existence into a life full of purpose. The five pillars model makes the changes required, simple, straightforward and ultimately, achievable.
