Summary

The instant Sunday Times bestselling debut novel

This audiobook contains an exclusive Q&A between Sheila Atim and the author.

ONLINE RUMOURS. REAL LIFE TROUBLE.

Ola Olajide, a high-profile journalist, is marrying the love of her life in one month's time. Young, beautiful, successful – she and her fiancé Michael seem to have it all.

That is, until one morning when they both wake up to the same message:

‘Oh my god, have you seen The List?’

It began as a list of anonymous allegations about abusive men. Now it has been published online. Ola made her name breaking exactly this type of story. She would usually be the first to cover it, calling for the men to be fired. Except today, Michael’s name is on there.

With their future on the line, Ola gives Michael an ultimatum to prove his innocence by their wedding day, but will the truth of what happened change everything for both of them?

I was hooked straight away

The story is so compelling, as are the characters. They’re relatable, complicated and human in a way that can be difficult to do in a book that’s more story driven. The story is really contemporary, dealing with the world of the internet, post Me Too, and gender politics. I like how well it humanised so many conflicting perspectives. Can’t wait to see it adapted on screen!

Amazing all-round.

Absolutely love this. Unputdownable. I finished it in two days and probably the fastest I’ve finished a book. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Truth to power

I listened for a group - it wasn’t my choice. The audible is good and I’m not sure I would bother with the book. Both narrators are excellent. There are a few pot holes and it’s unbelievable at times, but very important themes. I listened as the Russell Brand story evolved so it was highly relevant. There is an excellent interview with the author at the end who is a fellow Croydonite.

i absolutely loved this book, i loved the reality of it and that it gives the reader a chance to think about their own choices and how this could happen to them.

Exceptional

So clever. So timely. Beautiful performances. I selected it on audible as had left my copy of the book behind and am so glad I did. The performances added additional depth to this superb writing.

Good story, well delivered

I enjoyed this although found it a little too long. I became slightly frustrated with it at times due to irrelevant or meandering parts of the plot but overall I enjoyed it. A holiday book rather than a serious read. The topic is very of the moment, a little predictable perhaps but a good effort.

Unique book

I was drawn to the storyline and overall it was a great book, however it definitely could have been at least 3 hours shorter.

Gripping and excellently written. Intelligent examination of big and difficult subjects.

I loved this from start to finish. It challenged me, made me think and as a white middle aged woman, allowed me to submerge myself in the world of black millenials in a way that enriched my experience. Fabulous!

Loved it, hooked from the beginning to the end

Great book, highly recommend. Never knew where it was going next. Not sure if I was satisfied with the ending - left me lots to ponder!
