Summary

Once a con artist, now a hotshot lawyer, Eddie Flynn's learnt that fast talk and sleight of hand are just as important in the courtroom are they are on the street. That's why Leonard Howell asks for Eddie's help when his 19-year-old daughter goes missing - he needs someone willing to break the rules. But what if the whole thing was a setup from the very beginning? With a client on trial for his life and the body count rising, the only question is which is deadlier - a man who keeps his oath or one who breaks it?

A missing girl, a desperate father and a case that threatens to destroy everyone involved - Eddie Flynn's got his work cut out in the thrilling new novel from the author of The Defence. Read by Adam Sims.

The third of the four current Eddie Flynn novels

I've rapidly become a Steve Cavanagh fan - a bit late to the party and, wrongly, started with 'Thirteen' then read/listened to the first three in order.
This was possible a little more convoluted than the others, with some of it set in current time and some of the narrative a decade or so before.
Adam Sims, who has narrated all of the Eddie Flynn novels is on his usual excellent form here.

Looking forward to the new novel out in January from Steve - Fifty-Fifty.

Great characters..

... which I hope to meet again. Legal labyrinth meets Greek tragedy. Great stuff - thank you!

Engaging

A good mix of action scenes and legal scenes that kept my attention. Well narrated. Wasn't so keen on the ending which seemed a bit too contrived.

Another Brilliant Eddie Flynn book

My only regret is that I've now read all four Eddie Flynn books. Hopefully there will be many more in the series.

Objection not quite overruled.

Interesting story and an unusual initial premise, but let down by poor/lazy character development. Some nice twists and turns, but becomes a little formulaic towards the end. The denouement was far fetched.

The narrator does a good enough job, but a couple of the secondary characters sounded quite similar. Made the classic audiobook mistake of reading out all the "he said/she saids". An out-take has also been accidentally left in, immediately followed by the re-read.

A decent enough listen, but no cigar.

I will listen to anything Adam Sims narrates!

After listening to the Inspector Gamache series, I searched for other titles narrated by Adam Sims and came across this series. The first couple were rocky for me but I feel like this is where the series started to hit a stride. They just get better from here on out!

Great series

Completely over the top, but one hell of a ride. This series just keeps on giving. It’s a good combination of storytelling, character building and keeping the reader on the edge of their seat. Highly recommended

This stuff is addictive!

It keeps getting better , I am totally hooked. The tentativeness of the first two books in the series dissolved into an absolute brilliant, gripping story line ... and off course a show stopping performance! I will listen to this again any day
