Alice Rose is a foundling, discovered on the Yorkshire moors above Haworth as a baby. Adopted but then later rejected again by a horrid stepmother, Alice struggles to find a place where she belongs. Only baking - the scent of cinnamon and citrus and the feel of butter and flour between her fingers - brings a comforting sense of home. So it seems natural that when she finally decides to return to Haworth, Alice turns to baking again, taking over a run-down little teashop and working to set up an afternoon tea emporium.

Absolutely lovely
I absolutely loved this , like a hot cup of tea in front of the fire on a cold winter day.
I strongly recommend that any one wanting to listen to this, listens to The Plumberry School of Comfort Food first , as several of the characters from there feature in this book and it is an advantage to know their background story.

Actually quite good
Would you listen to The Lemon Tree Café again? Why?
Maybe. It had a few twists and turns, not normally seen in this style of book.
What was one of the most memorable moments of The Lemon Tree Café?
Interesting family dynamics. I like the bits about building up the business and trying to come up with new ideas etc.
Have you listened to any of Colleen Prendergast’s other performances? How does this one compare?
About the same.
Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
Yes
Any additional comments?
Much better than previous book. This one had some surprises. Still too much romance for me. And the main character is completely different to her personality in previous book. People can change, but not like this; so was unrealistic.

Pretty pointless...
This book is yet another disappointment from Cathy Bramley. The story seems to have been written just for the sake of it and although it does seem to be a sequel to 'The Plumberry School of Comfort Food' as several of the same characters are featured, the plot-line just plods on & on & on...it took until part 2 to actually explain something that was prior just alluded to, however I was so very bored by them that I actually did not care what what was happening/ had happened to the characters. The narration is dreadful and although it is the same narrator as 'The Plumberry School of Comfort Food' the main character has a completely different voice and accent now in 'The Lemon Tree Cafe' so there is no continuity. I wish I had not wasted a credit on this book and I will be contacting customer service to make a complaint as I have not even been able to listen to the end as it is so awfully dreary and pointless.
Additionally some of the plot-line seems remarkably similar to Alexandra Brown's book 'The Great Village Show'.
This is my last attempt to listen to a Cathy Bramley title if Colleen Prendergast continues to narrate the books as she has done fo the past 7 audio titles.

Another triumph by Cathy.
Another well written book, which im pleased to say! It took me right back to my time in Sorentto which really helped me connect with this book.
Although I may not agree with all reactions and resolutions in this book, I am human enough to know we all react differently and we all find our own way to heal.
Colleen has to be one of my favourite narrators, I'm so glad she was reading this in the collection of books.
If you're looking for an inspiring, easy listening, happy ending story then this is for you.

Slow and hard to focus
Disappointed! The book is set in Derbyshire but is read by a narrator from the black country making it really hard to focus on the story and find it believable. 42 Chapters and I was willing it to end before I got to chapter 10.
Supposed to be an uplifting book but there is lots of talk of people dying, having cancer and being ill.
Towards the end there are two characters who both have unneutered dogs who breed. For anyone who has ever worked in dog rescue and knows how many dogs are put to sleep every day because of breeders this was so upsettin. This is a very serious matter of animals dying unnecessarily and yet it was treated as something light hearted. Very disappointed in this authors lack of humanity.
