Summary
I'll tell you something, something important. Love is a decision. Not a feeling. That's what you young people don't realise. That's why you're always off divorcing each other. No offence, dear.
So decrees the formidable Connie Thrum of Scribbly Gum Island. She is the chief decision-maker of a rather unconventional family and her word is law. It's been over 70 years since Connie and her sister Rose visited their neighbours and found the kettle boiling and a baby waking for her feed, but no sign of her parents. The 'Munro Baby Mystery' still hasn't been solved and tourists can visit the abandoned home, exactly as it was found in 1932.
But now Connie has passed away and the island residents ponder her legacy. Sophie Honeywell is looking down the barrel of her 40th birthday and still hoping for that fairytale ending. Her beautiful new friend Grace, the Munro Baby's grand daughter, can't tell anyone what she hopes for. It would be too shocking.
Meanwhile, a frumpy housewife makes a pact with a stranger, an old lady starts making her own decisions and a family secret finally explodes on an extraordinary night of mulled wine, fire-eating, and face-painting - The Last Anniversary.

Loved it!
Any additional comments?
I don't really get the mixed reviews (on various sites) from readers who say they loved Liane's other books, but this one - not so much. Some say it was necessary to suspend their disbelief at aspects of this story. Speaking as someone who has been around a while (aged 55), I didn't find this to be the case at all. If its a reference to the story of the baby and missing parents (I'll say no more to avoid spoilers), it should be born in mind that the incident took place in 1932! I didn't find anything implausible here and I loved and cared about the characters. In my opinion, this book is up to standard for Liane and I found it a very enjoyable listen.

A Brilliant Book
The Last Anniversary is Lianne Moriarty at her best. It is a well written, humorous and entertaining novel that, whilst touching on serious issues, still keeps the reader engaged throughout.
The mystery of Enigma's parents disappearance is a little predictable but the book still has a humorous and unexpected twist.

Loved it
Great characters, good twists. Was almost as good as little lies, which I loved. I also always enjoy this narrator.

BRILLIANT THROUGHOUT
Would you listen to The Last Anniversary again? Why?
No. not because I didn't enjoy it, because I really DID. I just don't see the point of reading any book a second time because part of the enjoyment is the anticipation of the outcome. If you already know it - what's the point?
What other book might you compare The Last Anniversary to, and why?
I wouldn't compare it with any other book as it is unique. All of Liane Moriarty's books are completely different
Which scene did you most enjoy?
There were so many outstanding scenes that I would find it hard to chose. This book was about 7 stories in 1 but they were all interlinked. The outcome of each tale as told at the end of the book was so enjoyable.
Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
Would have if I could!!
Any additional comments?
I would definitely recommend this author to anyone. She would appeal to any age group. Her books are so enjoyable. She has a brilliant sense of humour and I found myself laughing out loud on many occasions. Liane Moriarty has out standing imagination, how she creates so many different personalities I just don't know. She is very talented, I just LOVE her books. I am sad that I have read them all and I hope it's not long before she finishes her next one.

Disappointing from a usually entertaining author
Bought this as a "daily deal" after enjoying two of this author's other books. Wish I hadn't bothered!
This is essentially a short story stretched far too thinly into a novel and it shows. The 'mystery' at its heart is very predictable, the characters are like cardboard cutouts and to a person, unloveable to boot. The central theme of childlessness / parentage is grating - for heaven's sake, have women not advanced beyond this supposed yearning for self- fulfilment that can only be achieved via motherhood - and the treatment of post natal depression is, frankly, insulting.
The narrator is particularly unbearable - her rendition of (e.g.) little lies was just about tolerable but here she unleashes the full force of the nasal, high-pitched over-annunciated whining that has made the Australian accent so feared around the world. My ears are still ringing.

Another good yarn from Liane Moriarty
Enjoyed this interesting and different family story. Liane Moriarty never fails to produce characters with depth and substance. The way their relationships and stories are connected is faultless.
