Summary

Hazel Hughes has spent her life believing she is a Medium - someone who can talk to ghosts. But as of yet, that skill has remained frustratingly elusive. She is also suffering from a reoccurring childhood dream of someone who looks almost exactly like Hazel, but this dream version of herself is slowly going mad.

Sam MacInnes is a talented surgeon who runs in the highest social circles thanks to his family's position and history. When Sam hires Hazel to assist him with his medical practice, he is immediately drawn to her intelligence, wit, and beauty. Their potential relationship is derailed one evening when a mysterious count arrives in London and reveals to Hazel the truth about her past: she was abducted at birth and her twin sister has fallen dangerously ill.

Hazel agrees to travel to Romania with Count Petrescu in order to save her sister, and Sam insists on accompanying her. The count has secrets, though, and the journey grows more sinister with every mile that draws Hazel closer to her homeland. Even as her feelings for Sam become deeper and more complicated, she fears she might not survive the quest to save her sister with her heart intact, not to mention her life. She must learn to draw on gifts she doesn't know she has if they are going to ever return home again.

Hazel and Sam must fight their way past dark magic, clockwork beasts, and their own insecurities as they try to reach her sister in the impenetrable Coppergate Tower before time runs out.

Really enjoyed it!

I wasn’t sure how it was going to end when it got to the castle and stuff started happening but it was a clever twist and again there were such sweet characters that it was so lovely to hear them develop and interact with each other!

The Book was ok

This is the third book in the series & it's the first time I've really wanted to get to the end.
The main female character was really annoying. I know it was how the story flowed but I didn't enjoy it.
I'm hoping the fourth book in the series will be better.

Weak performance almost ruins it...

The narrator was breathy and kind of trailed off at the ends of sentences, and she didn't really distinguish different voices. Made it really hard to listen to. The story concept was good, but poorly executed. Most of the interesting Rapunzel-y things didn't happen until the last hour. None of the twists were surprising. Definitely my least favorite of the series.

Not my favorite

Unfortunately I found this story lacking.

The idea of the story was good. The character were developed well , and I liked that she brought back previous characters from book 1. However the story seamed to drag on and then suddenly rushed in the end. It was clean and I greatly appreciate that but over all I definitely did not fall in love with the love story.
Perhaps because he did not rescue her.

Book 1 and 2 were better written. Perhaps book 4 might be?

Good story bad narration

The book storyline is fine but it is ruined by the narrator. She sounds breathy and stresses the weirdest parts of each sentence. She doesn’t do the best inflections. It is very distracting and detracts from the story.

Loved this book!

Mystery, Adventure, and Romance weave beautifully throughout this book.

Strong believable characters, beautiful wit, and a clean exciting romance. Throw in a little danger and magic for fun!

Initially took a minute to get used to a different reader than her other two books in the series but came to love this reader just as much.

Highly recommend this book as well as the whole series!!

So much imagination and wonder

Nancy Campbell Allen has done it once more. She has drawn me into a whole other world that I don't want to return from. I love the characters and how she builds the plot to the climax keeping you guessing the entire time.
Elizabeth Knowelden has a breathy voice that bugged me. As the story wore on, however, her ability to truly perform the story, with the right cadence and tonality, was brilliant and I didn't notice as much.

Creative story. Wonderful narration.

This story was a creative retelling of the “Rapunzel”. The narrator did a wonderful job.
