About this listen

In best-selling author Steve Berry's stunning novel, former Justice Department agent Cotton Malone encounters information from a secret World War II dossier that, if proven true, would not only rewrite history - it could change the political landscape of Europe forever.

Two candidates are vying to become chancellor of Germany. One is a patriot who has served for many years, the other a usurper, stoking the flames of nationalistic hate. Both harbour secrets, but only one knows the truth about the other. Everything turns on the events of one fateful day - 30th April 1945 - and what happened deep beneath Berlin in the Fürherbunker. Did Adolph Hitler and Eva Braun die there? Did Martin Bormann, Hitler's close confidant, manage to escape? And possibly even more important, where did billions in Nazi wealth disappear to in the waning days of the war? The answers to these questions will determine who becomes the next chancellor.

Racing from Chile to South Africa, and finally the secret vaults of Switzerland, former Justice Department agent Cotton Malone must uncover the truth about the fates of Hitler, Braun and Bormann - revelations that could not only transform Europe, but finally expose a mystery known as the Kaiser's Web.

Great thriller

Lots of twists and turns that kept me gripped and wondering what happened to Hilter and his wife.

Accent

The narrator's reading of Schub's speech with a German accent made certain words hard to understand.

Wonderful storytelling

I really enjoy listening to Steve Berry’s audiobooks and learn so much about history and historical facts. After listening to The Malta Exchange, I was fascinated, having been to Malta and could picture some of the places indicated. It spurred me to start from his first book on the Cotton Malone series and I listened to all ( some read) and now I await each new book.

The characters and storyline are really good and gripping. I always feel as though I am right there in the midst of the action. Love the narrators also from the audiobooks. Thank you Steve Berry. Your books allow me to also dream of travel to new and exciting places; to not only just see the place, but make the effort to understand its history. Looking forward to travelling again and your next production.

I would definitely recommend this book. If you are reading / listening to this author’s work for the first time, I encourage you to begin with the first novel and work your way through, including the spin offs for Cassiopeia Vitt. These historical thrillers are great, with a good balance of factual and fictional information, you will not be disappointed.
