Excellent Falco - but first 5* for this narrator

Story excellent, well up to standard, and great to meet Flavia Albia at last. My main reason for writing this review is to say - fair's fair - this is the first time i've really enjoyed this narrator's work. He has shed all the cretinous accents and manners he gave to the other characters and I couldn't fault it.

Loose yourself in Londinium

Great story that follows Falco from conclusion of The Body in the Bath House.

The narration by Christian Rodska is outstanding and he manages to bring all the characters alive with his amazing talent for different voices.

I would definitely recommend this book.

a favourite of a series of favourites

I relistened to this story and was still unable to pause or stop without finishing, the plot ran quickly with many turns all interweaved with intreaging views of Roman Britain.

Very Enjoyable

Thought it was good . The reader was engaging and his voice range was distinctive and varied making it easy to distinguish the characters. I'm sure there are better books in the series but this was perfectly enjoyable.

Fast pace, action and a love story on the side.

Well read. I love listening to stories of Falco’s Rome. This was exciting all the way through.

"It depends what you mean by civilisation."

Falco and his family are staying in Londinium when a body is found, pushed head first in the well of a bar, the Shower of Gold. Unfortunately, not only does Falco know him and had recently ordered him out of the country in exile to Gaul, the man had also been a lifelong friend of the British chieftain and favourite of Vespasian's, King Togidubnus. Falco and Petronius investigate.

Again narrated with full involvement by Christian Rodska, this is the 14th tale in the excellent series following the exploits of Marcus Didius Falco, ex soldier turned informer in the Roman Empire under Verspasian. Whilst it is even more enjoyable to read the books in sequence, each does stand alone and all, including The Jupiter Myth, are highly recommended to anyone who enjoys being immersed in the history and atmosphere of Roman times as well as a good mystery thriller replete with sword fights, bars and general humour.

One of My Real Favourites

Running on immediately after ‘A body in the Bath House’, this adventure is so full of incident, intrigue, will-they-won’t-they, that its pace is often breath-taking. A bit of a Roman ‘The Sweeney’. It is significant for the challenging introduction of a major new character that really surprised me. You will see what I mean. Davis is excellent in being able to loop-back and re-introduce earlier characters and give them more room to show themselves. The adventure’s title is a great idea, by the way. The performance is exemplary. Voice characterisations are very well managed and consistent. I simply devoured this listen/book and enjoyed it so thoroughly.

An exciting introduction to life in Roman London

Such great entertainment with lively characters brought to life by the wonderful Christian Rodska. This series has really fired my interest for Roman history. The every day highlights and obstacles of life in Rome and Londinium, and the very personal perspective from the point of view of Falco and his family ignite much more interest than any generalised account of the Roman Empire. So much is written about the Emperors and politicians of the time, and great events, but I am much more interested in the lives of ordinary people. I’m now researching the tribes of Britain. So much more interesting than school history lessons!
