Summary

One of Sarah's daughters died. But can she be sure which one? A terrifying psychological thriller that will chill you to the bone.

A year after one of their identical twin daughters, Lydia, died in an accident, Angus and Sarah Moorcraft move to the tiny Scottish island Angus inherited from his grandmother, hoping to put together the pieces of their shattered lives.

But when their surviving daughter, Kirstie, claims they have mistaken her identity - that she, in fact, is Lydia - their world comes crashing down once again.

As winter encroaches, Angus is forced to travel away from the island for work, Sarah is feeling isolated, and Kirstie (or is it Lydia?) is growing more disturbed. When a violent storm leaves Sarah and her daughter stranded, Sarah finds herself tortured by the past: What really happened on that fateful day one of her daughters died?

Awful Scottish accents

If this book wasn’t for you, who do you think might enjoy it more?

Someone who has never heard a Scottish person speak

Has The Ice Twins put you off other books in this genre?

No

Would you be willing to try another one of the narrators’s performances?

No

You didn’t love this book--but did it have any redeeming qualities?

Interesting plot

Any additional comments?

I'm only a couple of chapters into this book and struggling to want to listen to what is a promising plot. The Scottish accents are so abysmal it is hard to listen to. I've found it so grating I've actually switched off on a couple of occasions. I'm not the only one to find the narration off putting (and wish I had read all the reviews before I bought the book) and find it hard to understand why anyone was cast a narrator who can't represent a mans voice and certainly can't do a Scottish accent.

Worst audiobook performance I've ever heard

Great story which meant I persisted but oh my goodness the performance in so hard to listen to. The child voice is painful, the Scottish accent horrific, not good.

Nauseating mother

Would you recommend this book to a friend? Why or why not?

No I wouldn't recommend it. It has some good features, and the story promises much at the start, but it disintegrates into nonsense.

What was most disappointing about S. K. Tremayne’s story?

The mother was quite simply unbearably annoying and I felt no empathy for her. Her behaviour towards the end of the book became hard to tolerate and I found it difficult to listen all the way to the end.

Which scene did you most enjoy?

The end came as a relief!

Did The Ice Twins inspire you to do anything?

Not buy anything else written by this author.

Just ok

I was hoping the story would grow in intrigue and suspense but I found it quite boring throughout, slow for 2/3s and then some twists thrown in at the end.

The narrator - penny rawlins - is good on the whole, but I wish she wouldn't shriek when she is doing the child's voice. This is an audiobook so will be listened to on earphones or in the car maybe, and her voice was so shrill in parts, it became ear splitting!

Good story, shame about the poor Scots accents

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

I wouldn't as an audio book, No. In my opinion although the readers read well, I found the attempt at Scottish accents abysmal, to the point they were irritating and I felt detracted from my overall enjoyment of the story. Apart from the guy at the end, who was authentically Scottish and should have read the part of Angus from the start.

Who might you have cast as narrator instead of the narrators?

Well Angus King was good as the character Angus, and the reader reading the parts of Sarah was also good, however I just wished she had not tried to talk with a Scottish accent, when talking as Angus, as she was terrible at it.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

No not really, but I liked the general plot of the story.

Any additional comments?

I felt it was a little bit drawn out in places. The plot was not too difficult to figure out, but I did think, or rather hoped that the twin was purposefully messing with the mothers head, to punish her in some way, but when this turned out not be true I felt a little let down. I did not feel any real connection with any of the characters, save for the dog, and I was not really moved to sympathy for any of them.

Awful

I found this book to be gripping in the beginning only to be a let down... The story doesn't really go anywhere... Disappointed.

Spine tingling spooky take

What a fantastic book!!!
Very original and chillingly spooky!

My only critique is the switch between the women narrators..... Why use 2 different narrators when it wasn't a switch between characters or told from another perspective. Very off putting and confusing!! That's why I've marked the performance as 3 stars.

The storyline itself was superb.

Great story but various female voices off putting

Very good book.

Storyline twists which is great.

The two different female narrators are off putting, especially the one doing the male voices. It would have been better with two male and two female actors I think.

Compelling

The storyline makes very compelling listening. However, some of the reading voices were annoyingly "wrong"
