Made my daily dog walk a pleasure rather than a chore!!

This is a wonderfully colourful & amusing jaunt through the lives of a dysfunctional aristocratic Irish Family. Brilliantly narrated. Loved it!

Disgusting from the first sentences.

Could not get beyond first two minutes. At least some warning should have been included in the listing. I for one would never have bought it had I know the content.

An amazing story!

Mark Macauley has a way with words. There's no other audiobook that is quite like his, stands out from the rest. Such a funny and witty book. Incredibly narrated, all the voices were amazing! Was entranced from the start.

Highly entertaining; gripping story, very amusing

The story of a young boy growing up under the iron rule of his father in a “big house” in Ireland in 1960s. Fantastic narration by the author, who is a very clever mimic. Hilarious moments woven through a rather tragic tale. Absolutely couldn’t put it down!

Delightful listening experience

Before listening to this audible version I had already read the print version and I found this just as enjoyable (possibly even more so). All of the voices were brilliant and I definitely felt like I had been transported back to 1960s Ireland!

Mark’s story

An incredible piece of writing. Superb story line, wonderfully constructed and presented. Loved the Joycean approach.
