Summary

Random House presents the audiobook edition of The Heat of the Moment, written and read by Dr Sabrina Cohen-Hatton.

In the face of urgency and uncertainty, would you respond analytically or trust your instincts? How would you decide who lives and who dies?

Dr Sabrina Cohen-Hatton has been a firefighter for 18 years. She decides which of her colleagues rush into a burning building and how they confront the blaze. She makes the call to evacuate if she believes the options have been exhausted or that the situation has escalated beyond hope. This is her astonishing account of a profession defined by the most difficult decisions imaginable.

Taking us to the very heart of firefighting, Sabrina uses her award-winning research to reveal the skills that are essential to surviving - and even thriving - in such a fast-paced and emotionally charged environment. And she immerses us in this extraordinary world, from scenes of devastation and crisis, through triumphs of bravery, to the quieter moments when she questions herself and the decisions made in the most unforgiving circumstances.

Here is the truth about how we respond in our most extreme moments.

Inspiring

Sabrina tells her story in such a way in which inspirers the reader/listener. It was amazing to hear Sabrina’s path to great success aswell as learning a lot about decision making. I feel I took a lot away from this book and even started it again the second I finished it. As a former firefighter, the anecdotes though some were partially fictional were read in a way put a lump in the back of my throat. Really enjoyed this book.

Fantastic listen

As a firefighter I found this book to be a most enjoyable listen. The work and research Dr Cohen-Hatton has contributed to the fire service have saved countless lives and improved the way incidents are dealt with.

The dissection of ones actions, firefighter or not, are imperative to learn from and improve oneself for the next challenge whatever it may be. She narrates with a friendly, familiar voice and doesn’t witter on.

Definitely a repeat listen this one:

Real and thought provoking

Not often do I listen to something that is so real it’s like I’m sat having a conversation. Sabrina manages to make a very informative and deep subject feel like you are chatting over coffee. Brilliantly structured and solidly based you can’t fail to appreciate the intent. Heartfelt true and a bloody good book
