Summary

An old nemesis is out for blood....

Parker Ferro’s life would be easier if his enemies stayed gone. When the man responsible for the death of Parker’s mother breaks out of prison, Parker finds himself in the crosshairs of the Bureau of Paranormal Threats when he tracks the criminal down.

With succubae going missing, an old god on the loose, and his boyfriend’s mother in town, the last thing Parker has time for is human politics. But with a marriage proposal that he can’t quite figure out and mysteries that keep landing him in hot water with the feds, Parker must keep one step ahead or end up in handcuffs himself.

The Heart's Blood Arrow is a 130,000-word MM urban fantasy with an HFN ending and an ongoing storyline. It cannot be listened to as a stand-alone.

Great

It was great although it wasn't really what I was expecting.

I still loved the characters. As for the plot, I was not 100% into it. I think I like this series best when the fae, the the court politics and the paranormals of San Amaro in general are more the focus of the story. Here, the plot wasn't bad but I was more involved in the characters and their relationships than the mystery plot.

As the San Amaro Investigations series continues and the more Gods are introduced the more I loose a bit of interest in the overall story arc of the series. BUT I'll still read the last two books because the characters are the best part -and because Greg Boudreaux/Tremblay is a great narrator.

Love these books!!

I could honestly read/listen to 1000 books on this series. I love the series that much! The Heart’s Blood Arrow is another great read in this series. The stories all have a well rounded character arsenal and Kai Butler gives you just enough hints throughout the stories to make you think you will know what happens then slaps you in the face with a huge twist. Each book in this series is just fun and spicy without being exceedingly so. Just enough spice and a well told story in each book. Can’t wait for the next, and the next, and the next book.

Greg Tremblay was the exact right person to get to narrate this story. I can’t imagine ANY ONE else as Parker. The little nuances in his voice give the characters depth and emotion beyond what some narrators can achieve. He has a VERY wide range of voices he does for characters and NAILS them all every time. I can’t say how big of a fan I am of Greg’s style of bringing the written words to life and sucking you into the story.

Parker, Nick and the gang are back!

Narration: This is easily my new favorite Greg Tremblay narration. He did an incredible job. He is the perfect for Parker and his comedic timing and deadpan delivery was especially excellent. Not to mention how much emotion he has in his voice/performance. I read this book prior it to listening to it and the audio was an even better experience. I highly recommend the audio for this series!

Story: This series must be read in order, so this review will contain spoilers for the previous books.

I am in love with this series. The ending of the previous book was a bit of a cliffhanger, so I was nervous going into this book, but Kai didn’t let me down. We have seen incredible character growth from Parker with each book and in this one he finally starts to fight for what he wants. I think the readers are more shocked than Parker by how deeply he loves Nick. Nick has been the rock of their relationship since book 1, but things flip in this book as Nick is forced to deal with family dynamics he’s been avoiding. Things are messy and painful and unexpected. It actually hurt to learn exactly what Nick grew up with and the immense pressure from his family, as well as see how he continues to be treated. But where Nick’s family is a source of pain, Nick and Parker have built a beautiful found family with Parker’s sister Laurel, Sugar, and their not-a-cat Runt. There are some really beautiful scenes between Parker and Nick, but I think the found family moments were the ones that made me tear up!

The overarching plot continues from the previous books and is super interesting. As usual, the pacing is perfection and Kai expertly weaves in a side plot about missing succubi - some of whom are friends of Sugar. It’s no surprise that the way everything ties together is really great. I don’t want to get into details because of spoilers. Just know that this book is just as good as the others, if not better! I’m looking forward to the audiobook’s release so I can “re-read” it!

All I’ve ever wanted is a well-written fantasy series with gay main characters and a solid relationship. Who knew I’d actually get to read exactly that one day, and one that exceeds my expectations? We’re 5 books into this series and it only gets better and better! This is easily one of my favorite series ever. If you even remotely like fantasy then you have to check this series out.

Another great episode!

This series is amazing and ‘The Heart’s Blood Arrow’ is a fantastic addition. There’s wonderful word building, lots of action, and true love. Nick and Parker are such interesting and likeable MCs, and the secondary characters more than hold their own. I cannot recommend the entire series too highly, but please note that they need to be enjoyed in order.

I love this series

Honestly, I’ve listened to these 5 books probably 3 times so far. The mix of the storyline, characters, and narrator makes for utter perfection! And now I’m impatiently waiting for the rest of the books to be available on audible.

Fantastic series! Wonderful narration

In this fifth installment of the San Amaro Investigations series, we get a continuation of the series' story arc, as well as an interesting new investigation having to do with some missing succubae—old friends and colleagues of Sugar’s. I feel like Parker and Nick’s relationship is very strong now, and both guys know they can rely on each other. They still get tested, though! Nick especially has to deal with some complex family issues. A lot of other things are up in the air at the start of the book, and I’m incredibly happy with where everything settles at the end. I don’t want to give anything away, but I was just SO happy with the ending of this one!!! I love the found family aspect of this series and that ending got me like WHOA!!! I’m such a huge fan of this series and can’t recommend it enough if you like plot-heavy paranormal investigation books with action, drama, excitement, humor, and a healthy dose of whimsicality.

As always, Greg Tremblay did a wonderful job with the narration.

Perhaps the best one yet in this series

The author brings together all the characters we know from books one through four in this fantastic, epic. The graphic intimacy is still unnecessary, but less key to the story. The performance is absolutely outstanding. Can’t wait for the next book.

Cliffhanger

Good twists at the end and still have to wait for the next book for the rest of the story
