About this listen
The highly anticipated sequel to A Demon in Silver, The Hangman's Gate continues the epic saga of the War of the Archons.
After uniting the bandit clans, the Iron Tusk has swept into Shengen and taken control of the empire. With an army behind him, he marches along the Skull Road, ready to lay waste to the lands in the west. The rag-tag defenders of Dunrun are all that stand in his way. With their country besieged on all sides, troubling rumors of a priestess amassing power in the North, and unnatural alliances to the south, no help is coming. Alone, they must hold back the god-like powers of the Iron Tusk, or see life as they know it come to an end.

However, there is still some awkward story/writing. Additionally, like the first book, it is a little hard to follow in areas where they switch back and forth giving dates. It is unclear whether it is the same time or a distant time period. Without having text that one can easily refer to, one would have to note and remember what date is being given and then compare. This is added to the fact that several stories (featuring many different characters - both related and totally unrelated at the time) are all going on throughout the story. Also there are two different scenes near the end with one of the head villains where the scenes/monologue and dialogue are embarrassing similar to those in the last movie of Harry Potter with Voldemort.
The characters were much more likeable and three dimensional in this one, but the main character(s) are the ones that are kind of just okay. So it is is harder to be invested fully. Still it is better than the first book, which was itself pretty good.
My verdict is that book 2 is well worth a listen - especially if it can be obtained as part of membership for free.
