Critic reviews

"This is a great writer at the peak of her powers. Karin Slaughter is at her nail biting, heart stopping, emotionally draining best." (Peter James)

"Karin Slaughter has - by far - the best name of all of us mystery novelists. More to the point, The Good Daughter is Karin Slaughter's most ambitious, most emotional, and best novel. So far, anyway." (James Patterson)

"Simply the best book you'll read all year. Raw, powerful and utterly gripping - yet written with a tenderness and empathy that will break your heart." (Kathryn Stockett, best-selling author of The Help)

Depressing

What would have made The Good Daughter better?

More about the characters and less dwelling on the graphic details of the horrible event at the beginning of the book.

What was most disappointing about Karin Slaughter’s story?

I found it very depressing with a constant rehashing of the event at the beginning in graphic detail, without really going anywhere as a story.

What character would you cut from The Good Daughter?

None

Any additional comments?

I nearly abandoned this at several points, but it would then offer a glimmer of hope that it was actually going to develop, only to disappoint again.

Disappointed

I'm a diehard fan of Karin Slaughter and was so excited to listen to her latest offering. However, this book left me rather disappointed. It is by no means up to her usual gripping standards - I in fact found it rather dull and tedious. The narrator did nothing to help matters either. I don't like being negative but this really wasn't great.

Her books just get better

I've always been a fan of Karin Slaughter but U actually think her stand alone novels are even better than the series books she writes, though I love them too. This book didn't disappoint.

Captivating story.

Intriguing descriptive story with multiple layers, strong characters with nuanced depth. Well read by Susie James, thanks Karin, looking forward to the next tale from your creative mind.

Really good

Engaging characters and storyline, psychologically intriguing, great narration. A bit sad, made me cry from time to time.
