Summary
From New York Times best-selling author, Angie Fox, a hauntingly fun holiday addition to the USA Today best-selling Southern Ghost Hunter series
Southern girl Verity Long needs a Christmas miracle....
Verity is ready to deck the halls, jingle some bells, and maybe, just maybe have a merry Christmas with her boyfriend’s stuffy family. Truly, if she doesn’t extend the proverbial olive branch to the overbearing Wydells, she’s afraid she’ll hit them over the head with it.
But when her boyfriend’s mother pulls a shocking stunt, Verity finds herself with a big decision to make. And if that’s not enough, there’s an unexpected guest at her door. It’s the ghost of the woman who helped rescue Verity’s pet skunk three years ago that very night. And now she’s there to change Verity’s life as well.
A "between the books" holiday story you don't want to miss!

A Wonderful Cozy Tale of Christmas Spirit.
I’m a big fan of The Southern Ghost Hunter Mysteries series and have read all the books to date. Angie’s writing style is fantastic. I love the pace at which her tales flow, how she lets the mysteries evolve and how she weaves all the elements of her stories together. The characters are full-bodied – even the dead ones – and easily come to life in my imagination. Angie weaves present-day mysteries and murders with those of the past and always includes a twist that surprises me!
Although this is a quick short read, all of my expectations were met beautifully.
I was completely engaged from the first page to the last. The Ghost of Christmas Past will be one of those books I reach for again and again.
I downloaded the narration and was once again impressed by Tavia Gilbert’s performance. The pace at which she read, the emotions she infused the different scenes with and the tonal variations she used for the dialogue. Tavia’s narration added rather than diminished Angie’s book.
I really loved this story.
The Ghost of Christmas Past is a great introduction to the series if you haven’t started it yet. We also get a sneaky excerpt from the next book at the end too.

So bad I couldn't listen on...
I couldn't listen beyond the first few minutes, which was enough to set the scene for {YAAAAWN!} another round of Verity allowing herself to be treated like shit by her boyfriend's vindictive bitch of a mother.
At this point I have lost all respect for the character of Verity.
She needed to grow a backbone, slap her boyfriend's mother into the middle of next week, and start sticking up for herself in the face of her idiot boyfriend's blinkered wish for them to get along AT LEAST three books ago. I can't listen to any more books filled with utter rubbish about Southern Manners and the wish to avoid gossip being valid reasons for allowing yourself to be treated as a human doormat.
It's a shame because the stories are otherwise engaging and entertaining but as a continuing theme the Polite Southern Masochist routine was worn out long before this book and should have been well and truly laid to rest.
I'm afraid this series and I will have to part company.

don't put Verity in the corner (aka, dirty dancing)
The world would be best served if Virginia had her viperous tongue removed. .I was very pleased when Verity finally stood up to the vile creature. I heartily disagree, that when you stand up for yourself with truths that makes you mean and hard hearted. Being a doormat is the easy way out!!! Many of the ghosts were so hard on Verity, and I didn't enjoy this story as much as I have the others I've read. It made Verity seem weak and mean for being honest!!! The narrator did a good job.

Ok but has some problems
I’ve been waiting for 8 books for Verity to finally grow a backbone and defend herself. Well she does that in this little novella and ends up getting haunted for her troubles. It felt like Verity was getting punished for finally standing up to Virginia’s abuse which I didn’t appreciate at all. I have friends whose parents are as abusive as Virginia and seeing how the ghosts were hanging her redemption on Verity was not great.
The novella does a good job of being an homage to “A Christmas Carol.” Each of the three ghosts represents the past, present and future very and the visions give the book a nice touch and insight into the Ellis brothers’ relationship with their mother.
The end of the novella shows Verity still being strong in dealing with Virginia but we will see if that continues or not.

My ABSOLUTE FAVORITE
It's hard to believe that with all the wonderful stories/books in this series, this short story would end up my favorite. It had "A Christmas Carol" type spin to it and I ate it up. The ending made me feel like I was in that moment, around that table, eating and talking. I highly recommend not missing this short story!!

Maybe it's just me
I wasn't crazy about the last book or this one. I liked when Felicity stood up to Ellis's mother. Then the adventure started and she had an extremely long internal thoughts session. I got a little impatient, but stuck with the book because I normally love this series. I did like the part where she rallied and liked the ending. Don't want to say more about that and spoil the ending for someone else.
Seeing all the high ratings, I'll probably give it another chance in the future, just in case my rating was off.

A great reminder
Family is important. This story reminds us that no matter the hurts, angst, or dislike of family members that we may have, family is important. Thank you Angie!
