Love makes you do things you never thought you were capable of…

Margo and Richard’s love affair was fiery, forbidden and all-consuming, but ultimately doomed. When it imploded, Margo was left broken.

Margo never spoke a word about the man who abandoned his young family so easily. She’s forged a new life which she’s determined to live her own way, despite the disapproval of her daughters.

Her eldest, Rachel longs to escape the responsibility of caring for Sandcove, the crumbling house where she and her sisters were left to run wild.

Dreamy Imogen should be getting ready for her wedding but is feeling a dangerous connection to a beautiful stranger.

And the youngest of the three, wild, passionate Sacha, is carrying a secret from their past that will shake the family to its core…

The Garnett Girls is the Sunday Times bestselling debut which asks whether children can ever be free of the mistakes of their parents.

A wonderful book

I thoroughly enjoyed this book. It’s a beautiful story of love, loss and family dynamics. The narrator is brilliant!

Loved this book

Unlike other reviewers I really enjoyed this book. The interplay between the characters was interesting, and I thought they were very well described, especially the mother and daughters. The misunderstandings, things said, not said, were all recognisable, to me anyway. I also identified with the extreme drama of youth, even though mine was a very long time ago! And Kirsten Atherton is an excellent narrator. She really brought the story to life. It’s not an especially challenging plot, the male half of the great love story was oddly shadowy, but I was looking for an interesting family story and I listened to this in less than 3 days! Highly recommended.

A summer holiday read…

A good simple read… I felt it was a bit unnecessary in places - repeating the story of the girls early life, which we’d already gleaned making it long, but loved the characters

Not my favourite.

Struggle to listen towards the end as Margo began to irritate me and it all seemed a bit of fantasy really

Brilliant Book

A great read - good as a holiday read but far more engaging than most! A somehow heartwarming story about generational trauma and familial love and loyalty. My only qualm was Imogen’s voice in the recording. I found it incredibly irritating.

Heart warming story

I enjoyed listening to this book and thought the narrator was brilliant. I did find it hard to keep track of all the names and characters but that's probably because i listen when pottering around. It has definitely made me want to revisit the Isle of Wight!

Great summer l lists

Great summer book with believable characters and all the characters well read - easy story but would have liked a tiny bit bit more intrigue but realise without this it makes the story more realistic
