Summary

Does your heart break every time you see your child struggle academically, socially, and emotionally because of their ADHD symptoms?

Are you worried that your pre-teen’s condition will hinder them from having a happy and successful life during their teenage and adult years?

Do you want to equip your child with the skills they need to thrive as they grow up, but don’t know exactly where to begin?

Whether you’ve only learned about your pre-teen’s diagnosis recently or you’ve been trying to manage their condition for quite some time, you may find yourself constantly overwhelmed, stressed, and even frustrated…and there’s absolutely nothing wrong with that.

You are not alone in your situation–the fact is, ADHD is considered the third-most-common mental health disorder among children across the globe.

The good news is, just like any other child’s brain, your pre-teen’s mind is still developing, and will continue to develop. This means that with your help, love, and care for them, your young one can learn the skills that they need, develop their strengths, and realize their dreams.

After all, a lot of individuals who have been diagnosed with ADHD thrived in their respective fields–just look at Hollywood star and modern female role model Emma Watson, business magnate Bill Gates, basketball legend Michael Jordan, and even Renaissance genius Leonardo da Vinci.

This just proves that when kids are given the right opportunities and proper support, their life with ADHD can be truly amazing.

Fortunately, this book contains everything you need to be able to help your child–it can serve as your roadmap to navigate the challenging world of ADHD.

Inside, here is just a fraction of what you will discover:

  • Nineteen skills that your pre-teen must know to be adept and self-sufficient in the years to come.
  • A crash course on ADHD: know more about what your child goes through so you can offer them the right type of help.
  • A holistic approach to equipping your pre-teen for life–from developing healthy habits, learning social skills, managing emotions, building a routine, and making decisions.
  • Different ways to manage their condition, because contrary to popular belief, addressing ADHD takes more than just pills.
  • What “executive age” is, and the crucial role it plays in your child’s development.
  • Six things you should avoid at all costs while trying to help your pre-teen.
  • Over 20 self-care tips for you as a parent–help yourself so you can help your child.
  • The secret weapon of Olympic swimmer Michael Phelps that made him overcome the struggles of ADHD and find success.

And much more.

Despite what you may have heard before, ADHD does not come from bad parenting–you are not to blame for your child’s condition.

However, the way you respond to your pre-teen’s situation can make a long-lasting difference in their life.

An Impactful, empowering text

As the mother of a child with special needs, this book instantly resonated with me. I am attracted to it partly because it was written by a parent like myself, who is keen to empower their child to navigate the world, grow and thrive.

The book is well-researched and beautifully presented in easy-to-understand language. It is particularly useful for new parents of children with ADHD who may feel uncertain about the path ahead. I find especially interesting the wide range of treatments mentioned, including dietary supplements, medication, music therapy, behavioral social skills training, and lifestyle changes, among others.

There is no doubt that parenting a pre-teen with ADHD can be challenging but armed with the right information and support this task can be embraced and enjoyed. The book is packed with invaluable information that will empower every parent of a child with ADHD to develop the confidence necessary to help their child develop skills and competencies that prepare them for life.

Helpful, practiacl and educational

This book was an excellent listen for educating you on how to help your child live their best life with ADHD successfully. The author has structured the book in an easy-to-digest manner, keeping me engaged throughout my entire listen. I learned so much, but the specific areas where I gained the most value were what diet to provide your child to help regulate ADHD and what treatments to administer to control the condition. I especially liked the advice on what herbal treatments you can use as alternatives, as this is rarely mentioned in most ADHD literature, and I really appreciated the fact that the author has gone the extra mile to include this.

I learned a lot from the sections on helping your child with ADHD deal with emotions and how to cope with bullying, as this is a very hard time for pre-teens in general. The techniques and strategies that are offered are very helpful and conveyed in a professional manner, and I am sure if applied correctly, they would contribute to solving these problems. Overall, great book, and highly recommended.

A new understanding

My girlfriend has ADHD and for me is Asperger’s. We are both working on our relationship together. Even though it’s a parent guide for teens, I felt that we both benefit from this audiobook. From the same signs that she does mentioned in the audio to the things I do that can trigger her ADHD that I wasn’t aware of. Great lesson and appreciated.

Excellent for Parents of Pre-Teens with ADHD

This is a very well-researched and organized guide for parents with children who have ADHD. The author talks about the three types of ADHD and the stages and symptoms related to each. emphasizing that the diagnosis must be made by a doctor. As a Holistic Health Practitioner and Wellness Consultant, I was pleased to see a book that goes beyond the medical model and encourages a more holistic approach to healing and managing ADHD behavior. Also, the approach is very straightforward and pulls no punches when addressing the contributing factors in the behavior that can be managed by combining a number of different techniques such as music therapy, a healthy lifestyle that includes nutritious foods, supplements and regular exercise, as well as medication when necessary. Ms.Hogan even suggests two popular diets that have been proven to help minimize ADHD symptoms and improve overall health. Meditation and spending time in Nature were included in the list. Attention to hygiene was of particular interest to me. I hadn't considered the challenge that impaired fine motor skills creates when doing simple things like brushing teeth, and performing other hygiene-related tasks. The importance of teaching your pre-teen life skills was also stressed.

Rewards for positive behaviors and using structure to minimize frustration were recommended and there were multiple examples and anecdotes for these and other behavior management tools throughout the book. I was gratified to hear an audiobook on this topic that does not present children with ADHD as victims. There was even an example of a well-known actor who had ADHD and dealt with bullies when he was young. Overall, the presentation seemed to focus on quality of life for both the children and the parents. There is a lot to this book, and it it well worth the listen. I highly recommend it.

Frazzled Learning Skills

I am writing this review to help parents and teachers. The more reviews a book gets; the more people will buy it and share the information inside with others, especially if the review is good. I am a 20-year high school math teacher, and for years the number one reason why students fail 9th-grade Algebra has been the lack of mastery of fundamental math skills. If students don’t have mastery before high school, they will struggle, and many will fail. This is a recurring problem, and in high school, it will require additional work outside the classroom, either at home with a parent or paying for a tutor.

The COVID-19 pandemic made educators and parents aware of social-emotional learning issues. ADHD has been known for a while, but in my tenure as a teacher, I have never received any training for the identification and treatment supports for ADHD.

The author conducted several months of research in writing the book. She is speaking from personal experience as a mother of three boys, and one has ADHD. If you are a parent or a teacher, please take the time to listen to this information. It is full of strategies that can help the child be more successful in the classroom and also will help you to know when to take a break, breathe and not become frazzled. I read the book to learn techniques to support success and help myself work with students with ADHD. I listen to the audiobook while driving to school. You can do the same! Let’s make a difference.
