Summary
The youngest son of a despised king, thrust upon a throne he never wanted, Desmond nevertheless tried to be a good monarch to Benta. Despite his efforts, the rebels were discontent with him, the alliance with the Harken Empire have taken control, and Desmond's private guards are either dead or turned traitor. On the verge of being executed, Desmond gets an unexpected rescue from Harken in the form of the fearsome Penance Gate mercenaries and the beautiful, brutal man who leads them.

Loved it as always
Amazing story, as always in this book series! This has to be one of my favorite books now. A bit of adventure, a bit of love, a bit of politics and a lot of character arcs. Actually making me like a character I truly hated, without playing on pure pity like many others.
Sad to report it’s very PG despite the hints at this not being the case, from beginning to end so don’t hope for that like I did. The wonderful story made up for it tho so for sure so I recommend it to the fullest.
