Critic reviews

"What a fantastic ending. What a tremendous achievement. A gorgeous, borderline flawless trilogy." (Seanan McGuire)

"Told in an enchanting, confessional first-person, we're with koli all the way." (Daily Mail)

"Marvellously expansive and claustrophobically menacing." (Publishers Weekly)

Enjoy the ride!

Sitting here crying at the end of this book, what an ending. If you have been here from the beginning, you may be shocked at Koli’s fall or, when you think about it, expecting it all along. Either way, another excellent book from MR Carey.

Beyond beautiful

Starting with The Girl With All The Gifts and ending with The Fall of Koli has been a surprising and emotional journey. The series has made me laugh, made me cry and without doubt will leave a lasting impression. It's a wonderfully written and insightful story with real-world impact.

Immersive and captivating

Having just finished listening to the final instalment of the Koli trilogy all I can do is encourage you to listen. One of the best written trilogies - perfectly balanced and paced.

This final chapter completes the threads that have been woven throughout.

Narration adds to the experience

Another Epic!

I really got into this trio of Koli books. I think the author has a real gift for the post apocalyptic stories. these are the books that I wish would never end. so immersive!
I've listen to The Girl with all the Gifts too and found that equally good.

The sad fall of koli

A sad ending to a wonderful trilogy and adventures of Koli - all good things must come to an end, but I didn’t want it to.

An excellent trilogy

Compelling story, amazing narration. I can hear all of the characters so clearly, it took me a minute to remember that some of the key players (Cup and Ursula for example) don't have their own unique voices. I will miss the Rampart world now that the trilogy is finished

The best thing to come out of lockdown

I'm so annoyed that I've finished the trilogy - I want to keep listening/reading it. As with the "girl with all the gifts" books, a properly rounded story with a great ending. Lots of details in there, speech patterns, old vs new words etc that all help to make the story feel real. The author wrote it in lockdown - I can't think of anything better that came out of lockdown.

Totally immersive...a must read.

This is up there with my all time favourite books. The author’s style is totally engaging with brilliant figurative language and dialogue that keeps the plot moving along at a good pace. I loved all the characters and believed in them totally. The women have total equality in this post-apocalyptic society but it all feels so natural. Other themes such as gender identity, democracy, fascism, ecology, pseudo A.I. Sentience are all there but do not hit you clumsily over the head. They are beautifully woven into the narrative. The ending was really satisfying. I can definitely see this being picked up as a film screenplay, with ample opportunity for CGI. Carey is now firmly one of my go to authors and I cannot wait for his next novel.
