Story
The first doctor-written guide to becoming a dad. Combines the medical knowledge of a health-care professional with real-life experience. At this crucial life moment, knowledge is power, but you probably know less than you think: what's a cervix? Can we still have sex? Why's the midwife doing that? How do I make up a bottle and is that poo normal? Dad's role is more important than you might ever have imagined, so what can you do to help?

Matt Coyne has become a hero for thousands of parents everywhere who are devoted followers of his popular blog, Man vs Baby. This is his book, and it is not your average parenting guide. It's packed with completely impractical advice for the bewildered new mum or dad - stuff you won't find anywhere else: from Profanity Bingo for labour to a categorisation of various nappy disasters. Story
For people who happen to be parents (or might be soon). Because for every turdy nappy you sadly deposit into a gag-reflex-inducing bin, there's a moment that's less sh*t around the corner. This is not a audiobook that will help you grow (or raise) a human successfully. But this is a book that might, if you're not too emotionally battered - and can see through the permanent eye twitch - help you laugh a little more than you cry. But that's not guaranteed.

Awful.
In an apparent effort to seem irreverent, this book adopts a horrible "bloke-y" tone throughout that makes it close to unlistenable. Expect to include constant references to the pub and "your missus" and hilarious comments like "your 20 week scan might be the first time you've attended a hospital appointment together...well apart from that time you had to go to the STI clinic". Even as a relatively old first time dad-to-be I found references to the Subbuteto figurines and the Grandstand Vidiprinter a bit dated and grating.
There are some useful bits of advice and information, which are generally adequately resourced. An exception is the "Advice From Expectant Dads" section at the end of every chapter, which include completely unchecked unsourced statements (eg "I've done some research - the main reason the hospital advise against Caesarean sections is the cost".
Avoid if you're looking for a book for grown-ups.

Informative but frustrating.
This really should be titled “The Reluctant Dad’s Survival Guide”. As someone who planned pregnancy with their partner, and is looking forward to fatherhood, I found this book alienating; it assumes the opposite on point counts. There are countless references to your “motor” getting ruined by a baby, you are reminded not to squeeze your partners sore breasts once a chapter and the book assumes you’re going to be embarrassed by every aspect of caring for a child. I really could have done without the entire section that explains why it’s a bad idea to have an affair while your partner is pregnant, or the part that reminds you not to tell a new mother to f**k off.
There is enough useful information to make this worthwhile but prepare to become annoyed if you don’t consider yourself a “lad” or are actually looking forward to becoming a dad.

Read if you’re a moron/don’t want a baby
Didn’t expect the title to be a literal representation of the content. Tone assumes you absolutely don’t want to be a parent and believe society has imposed a new set of requirements for dads which you find unreasonable.
