About this listen

"The Duke at Hazard is my dream historical romance: emotional and intimate, but also full of wit, humor, and a lovable cast of supporting characters. The setting feels so vivid and alive, and every single interaction between the two heroes is pitch perfect. I loved every word of this book' Martha Waters

The Duke of Severn is one of the greatest men in Britain.

He's also short, quiet, and unimpressive. And now he's been robbed, after indulging in one rash night with a strange man who stole the heirloom Severn ring from his finger. The Duke has to get it back, and he can't let anyone know how he lost it. So when his cousin bets that he couldn't survive without his privilege and title, the Duke grasps the opportunity to hunt down his ring-incognito.

Life as an ordinary person is terrifying... until the anonymous Duke meets Daizell Charnage, a disgraced gentleman, and hires him to help. Racing across the country in search of the thief, the Duke and Daizell fall into scrapes, into trouble-and in love.

Daizell has been excluded from polite society, his name tainted by his father's crimes and his own misbehaviour. Now he dares to dream of a life somewhere out of sight with the quiet gentleman who's stolen his heart. He doesn't know that his lover is a hugely rich public figure with half a dozen titles. And when he finds out, it will risk everything they have...

Another wonderful KJ Charles MM romance. The narrator was his usual perfect self. With clear characters and wonderful pace. Cornell always brings them brilliantly to life. Lovely happy ending.

Love. Love. Love.

I will admit that I hoarded this production like a dragon with its treasure. I only sat down to listen when I knew there would be no interruptions despite wanting to devour the story immediately. Really there is no better partnership than these two. I add my voice to the others, such a shame KJC and CC were split. Her stories are gold dust when read by him!

A sublime partnership.

Every installment I read from K J in any of the series simply takes what Charles does best and elevates it again and again! Everything was perfect and I listened to this one in two whirlwind days straight. The shy, sheltered Duke undercover, the dashing yet damaged not-so-rake to help him on his quest, horde thievery, elopement (multiple yes you heard me), lying to the church, the infamous Lady Wintors hell and return of our favourite fortunehunter and his Heart! From the character development, to the plot, to the bloody humour I love so much from Charles, to the absolutely spectacular scheming... Everything was impeccable. One of my absolute favourites

K J Charles has done it again

This was a wonderful story. I love the bringing together of those characters we already know and love, and really look forward to future books. The narration was wonderful, as usual, and adds so much life to these characters and stories. Thoroughly enjoyed.

Another great instalment from KJ

KJ charles can do no wrong! The author is now an “automatic download without reading the blurb author”. Love this cleverly weaved love story with the typical KJ Charles underdog winning in the end script. Warmly recommend

Petition for Cornell Collins to do all KJ Charles narration please and thank you. While most of the other readers are at least competent, Martyn Swain who readers the Doomsday books is unbearable. Please get Collins to do the next one.

KJ Charles and Cornell Collins, the perfect combination

Five stars all round. I love everything about this. Which was too brief so here’s an extra sentence.

Yay, Cornell Collins is reading KJ Charles again!

Marvellous narration. As an aficionado of Georgette Heyer it wasn't long into the book before I recognised to my surprise the plot from The Foundling by Ms Heyer which features Vernon Dauntry, the Marquis of Alverstoke (who must confront a blackmailer) now portrayed hereas Severn here in The Duke of Hazard! The whole Regency catalogue of Ms Heyer seems to have been trawled for other characters and plot lines, which I enjoyed immensely in their original format, and find now purloined here with some minor changes and KJ Charles taking the bow.

I live next to a famous hotel that features in two Heyer novels (and one Hardy novel) on purpose to amuse myself with the connection. I did not expect the Heyer connection to crop up in this book.

Any Old Diamonds is one of my favourite novels which is how I landed here on this new offering. I have found it amusing, as have others given their reviews. I would recommend Ms Heyers books starting with Faros Daughter, many of which have been produced by Audible, but better in their older renditions voiced by Phyllida Nash and Cornelius Garrett.

AMUSING BUT ....
