Summary

Listeners everywhere were transported by the 100 cupboard doors leading to 100 worlds of adventure in the best-selling 100 Cupboards series! Now, whether you're new to the series or can't wait to know where the cupboards came from, you'll want to open the cupboard door to this action-packed fantasy where friendships are forged, dark forces are challenged, and the adventure begins!

Hyacinth Smith can see things that others miss, stop attack dogs from attacking, and grow trees where no trees have grown before. But she's never had a real home. When her father tells them they've inherited a house from their great-aunt, Hyacinth sees trouble brewing. Their great-aunt has been playing with forces beyond her control, using her lightning-tree forest to create doors to other worlds. When one door opens, two boys tumble through...bringing with them a battle with the undying witch-queen, Nimiane. Hyacinth, together with the boys, must use her newfound magic and all of her courage to journey straight into the witch's kingdom in a daring plan to trap evil and kill the immortal.

If Siri read you a book

I am so sad. I have so looked forward to this book and I can't listen to it because the narration is awful! A couple of times I thought maybe a computer was reading it. How could they do this to such a great series?

great prequel! just as good as the others.

Loved the story. A little grim for very young listeners, but great for 4th grade and up depending on the child. Very surprised that the quality of the story was equal to that of the other books. This was not just a "money maker" using the success of the Cupboard series, but an authentic story of its own.

The narrator was terrible!

We have loved and been following this series for YEARS and couldn’t have been more upset with the quality of this audiobook. Especially when compared to the excellent narrator of the first three installments of the series, this is an extreme let down. I am upset I even paid for it. We’ll be reading this one, it’s unbearable to listen to.

Wonderful Story Filled with Warmth

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

Yes. This is the perfect story to listen by yourself or with a loved one.

What did you like best about this story?

I love how the plot twists and turns tying perfectly together. Prequels can be a tricky thing, and this one is done to perfection!

Which scene was your favorite?

It's hard to pick one!

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

I always try to listen to something like this as a complete entity. I don't pick it apart. Like any good book there is something special in every beginning, middle, and end.

Any additional comments?

I read a review saying that it seemed that this audiobook sounded like Siri. I think that's simply ridiculous. Kathleen Gati has done a masterful job of telling the story with warmth and focus, while at the same time allowing the listener to paint their own picture as they follow along. This is not meant to be an animated movie with "character voices". Ms Gati's voice masterfully draws you into the story without ever overpowering it. Bravo.

Great Story

I have listened to or read every book in the Ashtown Burial and 100 Cupboards Series. This is my favorite ND Wilson book so far because it is a more succinct and focused story. The book helps tie together the two series and clears up some unanswered questions from previous books, but this ending did feel rushed and incomplete. I suppose that is to tease the readers towards a new book? In all, the story and reader were both entertaining. I am glad that a new one was chosen for this book than the previous 100 Cupboards’ books. This is much improved.

Wonderfully woven

The Prologue has perfectly rekindled our desire to reread 100 Cupboards.....all five of us! Binge reading on the horizon.

Another Great Story by N.D. Wilson

great story. Terrific creative work. however, the narrator could NOT imitate a American western accent and I found that irritating.

worth a listen.
