Summary
Sherlock Holmes and Doctor Watson are summoned to Theobald Grange, the Warwickshire home of Lady Heminworth.
Being of a nervous and superstitious disposition, her Ladyship lives in fear. Her husband and elder son were recently murdered, apparently by the ghost of a court jester who was executed on the site centuries before. The apparition has warned that she, too, is to die.
Holmes rejects a supernatural explanation, although his adversary seems unaffected by gunfire and is able to take flight and disappear. The "Great Detective" brings his powers to bear, but still the killings continue....

not bad but hate the pseudoscience from Watson
not great not worth hearing .I am very disappointed the writer uses pseudoscience by getting doctor Watson to explain why human are natural vegetarians and are not evolved to eat meat as we know is false and nor would a doctor of the age even try to make such a claim .next time I hope the writer leaves his own life style out of the story and not try to claim it is evolutionary fact..also Sherlock does nt make any great deductions he just states the obvious

Superb narration by Nick Crosby.
I'm not normally a great fan of "Sherlock Holmes" but my husband and I started listening to the audio version of Arthur Hall's excellent book "Sherlock Holmes, The Demon Of The Dusk" and were instantly hooked. It is well written in the style of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle and is the investigation of supposedly supernatural events. It is brilliantly narrated by Nick Crosby who really brought the story and its many diverse characters to life with his superb narration skills. We look forward to listening to more audio books by this narrator.

A worthy tale of mystery and murder!
As a big fan of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle's Sherlock & Watson takes, I've readily devoured all his works and equally a huge quantity of work by many other authors.
The qualitu of these subsequent works vary considerably and so it us always with trepidation that I start any new tale, and Audios even more so as a bad vocal choice can make the work laughable.
It was therefore hugely satisfying to find the vocal choice was perfect with this tale and whether portraying Holmes, Watson or the plethora of other characters, there was a clear distinction between the voice and mannerism.
Of course this is all for nought if the tale is hollow or lacks mystery and here is the somewhat more mixed bag.
The story, at its core, is classic Holmes; a threat, the cause of which seems supernatural in origin and a damsel in distress. My issue is that the supernatural element is revealed to be false very early on and as such it takes away a lot of the mystery from the tale.
Now I know that, being set in the real world, there is nothing truly other-worldly but I feel that, as time has passed authors have felt the need to underline this fact early on so as to get it out of the way and move on with the proper deduction.
This isn't a major issue as the rest of the tale is full with danger and colourful characters and it is the characters that really keep this story afloat.
From the appearance of a well-known police officer to Dr Turville and his newfangled Psychiatric science, there were both new and familiar characters all of which helped to bring the setting to life and this was much needed given the rather secluded setting of the tale.
I would say that, while not on par with the original works, the audio was nicely presented, the story very well written and it successfully kept me rapt until the very end.
