Summary
On February 13, 2017, two Indiana teenagers, Abigail Williams, 13, and Liberty German, 14, went for a walk in the woods near the abandoned Monon High Bridge.
They never returned home.
Their bodies were discovered on Valentine's Day morning, sparking a torrent of news coverage and social media speculation that engrossed the attention of people around the world.
A grainy photo of the suspected killer walking across the bridge and a chilling cellphone recording of his voice saying "down the hill" captured the public's attention. Numerous possible suspects were brought to the attention of the authorities but dismissed, leaving everyone wondering who could have committed such a heinous crime.
Author Nic Edwards, host of the wildly popular True Crime Garage podcast, was fascinated by the case and for years conducted his own extensive research and commentary. As such he was able to dissect the investigation that included an extensive list of possible suspects, such as a hatchet-wielding lunatic, a kidnapper with unusual tattoos, a murderous pastor, a rapist, and a father and son catfishing team.
Then in late October 2022, local pharmacy technician Richard Allen was charged with the murders. His arrest raised multiple questions about how he was able to evade law enforcement for so long and what motivated him to commit such a horrific crime.
In The Delphi Murders: The Quest To Find ‘The Man on the Bridge’, Edwards and his best-selling coauthor Brian Whitney (You Have a Very Soft Voice, Susan) provide a detailed account of the investigation from the day the girls’ bodies were found to the events leading up to Allen's arrest, and unique insight into the minds of the killer and those who worked tirelessly to bring him to justice.

Uncomfortably Narcissistic and Voyeuristic
I used to be a "true crime junkie" and an avid listener of True Crime Garage back in the day, and as I have a passing interest in the Delphi case I thought I'd give this a listen.
Something important to know going in is that Nic Edwards is summarising this case purely as a layman; if you're expecting something akin to, say, The Devil's Knot you're going to be deeply disappointed as Edwards does not have any more insight or knowledge of the case than any other member of the public.
Listening to this audiobook reminded me why I turned off true crime podcasts. We are talking about real people going through unimaginable pain and torment, who are treated like items for entertainment and amusement. Edwards talks about the various people involved as if he's analysing fantasy football rather than actual human beings. He also clearly has an inflated view of himself, dedicating huge chunks of the book to his own life and his podcast, constantly talking about numerous cases through the lens of how they affected him personally and expressing frustration at what the Delphi police have and haven't made public as if he's a key figure who could potentially help the case (at one point he says "even I couldn't solve this"). It is worth reminding yourself that he is an amateur, a layman, someone who by his own admission has no kind of expertise and training in the matters of solving crime and no kind of journalistic experience or contacts, yet has appointed himself as some vigilante investigator frustrated by those actually responsible for resolving the case, based solely on the relative success of his podcast. He frequently goes into tangents about unrelated cases tied together by the flimsiest string, such as another case involving two kidnapped young girls, which grinds the narrative he's trying to build to a halt.
It is possible to write non-fiction material on true crimes with dignity, class and compassion - such as the truly excellent The Sleep of Reason by David James Smith - but this book is a reminder of the dark direction popular culture is taking by reducing extraordinarily delicate and complicated matters involving the very real pain suffered by innocent members of the public who in no way asked to be infamous figures of analysis by ghouls such as Nic Edwards who see their suffering as entertainment and amusement.
An extra star given due to the narration by Kevin Pierce, which is outstanding.

Essential reading for the Delphi case
Incredibly well researched and comprehensive examination of the Delphi case. As a bonus, there's also plenty of fascinating background info for True Crime Garage listeners.

Loses all credibility in the opening minutes...
Loses all credibility in the opening minutes when the author(s) state that they were inspired to write true crime after following the campaign to free the "innocent" West Memphis Three. Sorry guys but the WM3 are guilty as hell; all evidence points to them being so, have admitted as much and were only released as part of an Alford plea.
Narration by Kevin Pierce is excellent as always though.

Can’t recommend
If you’re looking for a good overview of the Delphi case, this isn’t it. As another reviewer has said it’s scattered with other cases and references to their podcast, which make it a really difficult one to follow. One chapter nearer the end is about the interpretation of the case and what happened by way of a dream that the author had…
I can’t say much about the podcast as I haven’t listened, but my recommendation would be to save your money on this and listen to a free podcast about the case; you’ll get so much more information on the actual case and less personal speculation.

Disjointed and disappointing
It can't decide whether it's a telling of this story or a mish mash of other similar cases or an advert for a podcast.
Difficult to recommend.

Genuine
I’m a True Crime Garage fan from the UK and this is exactly what I expected. You can tell from the writing that Nick has a genuine devotion to true crime which goes way beyond the ‘sensationalism’ thy some aspect of true crime have become. I really enjoyed hearing the snippets of other cases and look forward to new books in the future which may delve into some of those cases even further.

Passionate
I really enjoyed Nicks debut book.
You can feel the passion in the writing that Nick genuinely wants justice for Libby and Abbie.
I really appreciated the references to other cases. I thought the narration was fantastic and really reminded me of John Douglas

Fantastic book
I have to admit I bought the book as an a fan of true crime garage. This is the authors first book and I really enjoyed it. Well written and compelling. Listened to it in bed last night as off work today and honestly it didn't send me to sleep. It is very well researched and I highly recommend this book if this genre interests you. Thank you nic.

Huge disappointment
As a long time fan of TCG and one who follows Delphi closely, this book is a massive disappointment. The few facts we know, are gotten wrong, a man who the police have never mentioned was out right accused, and the majority of the book has nothing to do with the Delphi case. When Delphi is mentioned, all you get it a rehash of the worst and most pathetic internet “sleuth” rubbish, repetitive sentences and inaccuracies. This is a shameful attempt of turning the murder of two teenagers…not little girls…into a ‘me, me, me’ blog. Abby and Libby deserve to have their story told. Sadly this isn’t it.

I thought this was about the Delphi murders??
Although I absolutely love the narrator Kevin Pierce, this book was a huge disappointment. I felt it was self serving to the author’s ego and did little justice to Abby and Libby. I also found the author’s unnecessary attention to one of the victim’s weight very tasteless. This book is full of speculation about various people as suspects, as it was written before the arrest of Richard Allen for these crimes. However, I felt the author was trying really hard to downplay Richard as a viable suspect because he isn’t one of the creeps the author originally suspected or mentioned in this book as being a potential suspect.

Couldn't finish it
I am a little more than an hour into this book and, thus far, it is all about the author and his obsession with true crime. I do not care about the author and his obsession with true crime; that is not why I purchased the book. Sadly, this book appears to be little more than a pathetic attempt at self-glorification, not the story of the Delphi Murders. Surely, if Mr. Edwards is such a true crime buff, he should know better.

Cash Grab Book
I’m a fan of the garage and I’m sorely disappointed. This book is very barely about Delphi. This should have been titled as something letting the buyer know this was a compilation of cases and cases Nic is interested in. I would have rated it more favorably. I think using Delphi and Bridge Guy is super deceptive and if I could have a refund I would but it’s Audible so… anyway.
Also, who is this super old voiced guy reading? He’s so drab and boring. You can’t even narrate your own book?
TL;DR wait to borrow for free at the library and expect a bunch of unrelated filler materials.

True Crimes Finest
Whether you are a true crime enthusiast or merely curious, this book is for you. Nic always attacks a case with purpose, leaving nothing out. When listening you don't feel being pushed in one way or other. He leaves things on the table for you to make your own opinion, all while respecting the victims. Amazing book!

Subpar
Maybe I was too eager to read the first book I could find following the arrest of the suspect. Edwards seems predominantly focused on relating his own perspective on the case. His only credential is being a true crime podcaster. He discusses dreaming about the murderer's intentions and the "insights" gleaned.

Did not care for it.
He talked about himself too much. Covered too much on other stories instead of Delphi murders.

Great Story!
I am a dedicated TCG and overall true crime fan. I didn’t listen to this book to gain new knowledge of Delphi, but rather get more of Nic’s perspective. It did not disappoint! Well written, fun to read, interesting insight. Highly recommend!

Desultory musings - stick to day job
Sincerely concerned author notwithstanding, this is one is filled with desultory musings about the crime and killer. The account is filled with purposeless, rambling explorations of the potential killer’s thought processes, motives and possible maneuvers. I found myself musing myself but not listening to the book. I lost my place countless times and skipped forward and backwards trying to find meaningful content. Sad story but with such poor writing I’m unlikely to even have the patience to find out who was responsible for this horrific crime.

Excellent True Crime Read
Fantastic debut novel from Nic Edwards! I look forward to reading more in the future. Didn’t want to hit pause or stop listening. Wasn’t a huge fan of the narrator’s voice and would much have preferred to hear Nic narrate - he makes a living off that voice for crying out loud! But the way the other cases were peppered throughout was a great addition to the book. Will be interested to see if there is a revised addition or sequel after the Richard Allen trial. Enjoyed learning more about Nic and TCG, my favorite podcast.
