Summary

Carl Weber takes listeners back to church in his latest drama-filled novel, the much-anticipated sequel to the New York Times best seller, The Choir Director.

It's been three years since Aaron Mackie succeeded in helping his friend and mentor Bishop T.K. Wilson dig his ministry out of financial ruin. Aaron is also responsible for re-energizing the almost defunct choir into something special. His success has drawn national attention, and he's on the verge of signing a huge recording contract. With his life in order, Aaron decides the time is right to propose to Tia Gregory, the church secretary who caught his eye and inspired him to shed his Tiger Woods-like tendencies to become a one-woman man. The stage is set for what might be the wedding of the year, but quickly becomes the disaster of the year when Aaron is left at the altar without explanation.

Now, during his own hour of need, Aaron turns to the bishop for help. Unfortunately, the line he asks T. K. to cross will force the bishop to choose between faith and friendship, or as he puts it, "between heaven and hell". As the investigation into Tia's disappearance continues, the two men are challenged in ways they never imagined.

Critic reviews

"After a church member commits suicide, secrets are exposed that could destroy the church and various relationships as Weber ( Up to No Good) successfully explores the multiple megaproblems challenging this church family and scores again with a lively mix of church politics and bedroom follies." Disappointing

What did you like best about The Choir Director 2? What did you like least?

There wasn't much that I liked about this story.

What could Carl Weber have done to make this a more enjoyable book for you?

He could have followed the first book a little better. This story was way outta left field from the first book.

Did the narration match the pace of the story?

The narration was fine.

Was The Choir Director 2 worth the listening time?

Not at all! I kept hoping that it would pick up or give me something but it just bombed!

Any additional comments?

I only gave the story a 3 because I am a fan of Carl Weber.

Too much!

What could have made this a 4 or 5-star listening experience for you?

A different story and a different ending

Has The Choir Director 2 turned you off from other books in this genre?

It was not what I expected. I'm a CW fan and I have been for a long time but this book was drastically different from his other work.

What did you like about the performance? What did you dislike?

The narrators did a good job but again the story was confusing.

If you could play editor, what scene or scenes would you have cut from The Choir Director 2?

If I could play editor I would say start over. Tia's whole story was depressing and not to mention the storyline did not match the original story. It wasn't date rape in the original book she was at a party. It was just depressing all of it.

Unbelievable

What would have made The Choir Director 2 better?

The storyline went way too far left to be believable. Prostitutes, drugs, murder, repetitive cursing, revenge, premarital sex and adultery -- and these are supposed to be church people we're talking about? Please!

The author made one glaring mistake with the Aaron character. In the previous novel, he painted him as a good guy who was remorseful about his past and sent his victim's family money regularly. In this installment, he said he never gave them a second thought. I won't spoil the ending, but just know that it's totally out of character and made no sense at all.

Would you ever listen to anything by Carl Weber again?

Never. Totally a waste of my time and a big disappointment as a sequel.

What three words best describe the narrators’s performance?

It was ok, considering the material they had to work with.

You didn’t love this book... but did it have any redeeming qualities?

No.

Just Okay

Would you say that listening to this book was time well-spent? Why or why not?

The book was just okay. I listened to the first novel again right before listening to this one which was a HUGE mistake. This is TOTALLY different from the first novel. I think I would have rated this one higher had he just created entirely new characters and separated it from the first choir director.

Would you be willing to try another book from Carl Weber? Why or why not?

I would purchase another Carl Weber book, I think he's talented. Just missed the mark on this one. Why change the personalities of all the characters we grew to love??

Which scene was your favorite?

hmmmm I don't really have a favorite scene.

If this book were a movie would you go see it?

I probably would go see it if it were a move. Mainly to just support the author. He's put out great work.

Any additional comments?

I have no additional comments.

The story had me hooked then it let me down

Well I thought this would be a more up,fitting story since Aaron had evolved in maturity. Instead except for the Bishop all of these characters deteriorated, Aaron, Tia, Monique. I have to admit I whizzed through this book, I was curious about the characters, but the uplifting ride of the story left me seriously disappointed, I will take a pause from Carl weber then return to something like BlackHamptons that weaves a more realistic family saga than this type of hastily written but poorly executed story. Also listening to these stories back to back, the change in voices was a lattice disconcerting, but the change in the characters… a mystery.
