About this listen

In an energetic debut novel about personal and professional chaos, author Addie Woolridge introduces a multicultural cast whose exploits are redefining the modern rom-com.

Killing it at work? Check. Gorgeous boyfriend? Check. Ambitions derailed by an insecure boss? Sigh - check.

Things were going a little too well for Dylan Delacroix. After upstaging her boss on a big account, she gets dispatched to the last place she wants to be: her hometown, Seattle. There, she must use her superstar corporate-consulting skills to curb the worst impulses of an impossibly eccentric tech CEO - if she doesn’t, she’s fired.

The fun doesn’t stop there: Dylan must also negotiate a ceasefire in the endless war between her bohemian parents and the straitlaced neighbors. Adding to the chaos is a wilting relationship with her boyfriend and a blossoming attraction to the neighbors’ smoking-hot son.

Suddenly Dylan has a million checklists, each a mile long. As personal and professional pressures mount, she finds it harder and harder to stay on track. Having always relied on her ability to manage the world around her, Dylan’s going to need a new plan. She may be down, but she’s definitely not out.

*The Pitfalls of Checklists*

Dylan has lived her life totally by checklists, you name it there is a list and her long term lawyer boyfriend is almost as bad. They even schedule in phone calls lol.

Dylan is a business consultant and she gets an assignment to work with an unpredictable CEO in Seattle. This the last place she wants to be because it is where her family live and they are completely about chaos and disorder. Everything she dislikes, eccentric is not the word for her. She encourages her boyfriend to come over, they have been together for years and he has always avoided the issue. Well he comes over for a weekend and it does not go well and being back at home brings chaos to her life and for the first time Dylan is starting to see that lists do not cater to dealing with a CEO who is a disaster. She is constantly has to do damage limitations which constantly throws her lists of of the window.
Then, the chaos at home and at work merge until the lists start to unravel and she starts missing important things and not to mention the dishy son of her family’s arch enemy who constantly feud.

There are lots of laughs but not really the romcom I expected but it has a contemporary feel about it. It started really slow and I did not think I would finish but I am so glad I finished it. Dylan’s family are a complete hoot
