Summary

*The USA Today bestseller*

In a cabin in a wood,

A woman by the window stood.

Glancing out, she thought she heard

Footsteps, whistling, something stirred.

Hiding here, she fears the night,

For what’s done in the dark will come to light.

She must run fast to escape her lie

Or she’ll be the next to die....

The unmissable new thriller from the USA Today bestselling master of edge-of-your-seat stories and screenwriter of Netflix Original movie, The Weekend Away.

why do good stories always have to have such pathetic endings?

I liked this story until around chapter 45 or so when there appeared a plot hole. How did the doctor get the phone and the blood report to Isabel and how did she get it to a news network in the time it takes for orderlies to attempt to make the transfer? Then the ending. What utter rot it was. i mean, so darned moralistic and gushy it almost made me sick. In fact, it would have done if I’d had a handy sick bowl to vomit in to. Thank goodness i haven’t had my dinner yet.

Stick with it

Bit slow to start and I find the American accents very grating personally. The second half of the book heats up and everything starts making sense. Everything is wrapped up neatly and ending is satisfying!

Lots of twists

Overall good book, but too many twists in the last few chapters. Honestly, Isabelle had a lot to answer for imo.

I have been a fan of Sarah alderson and this is the one I have rate a 4⭐️. Just a little disappointed with this one. Fast paced and not as clear a day.
Rose is been to a very abusive father. Her mum died on overdose . She got a sister who died in a an overdose too . She met his love of his life Ryan , a super wealthy bachelor who will run for president in the future.
Rose was so happy she though she met the love of her life until a girl she though Ryan cheating on his confess something to her .
She then realised that her sister confess the same thing .
She then left with her daughter and she did not bucked her daughter and ending it was dead.
Ryan now puts her in a asylum but the mystery girl help her how to make revenge.
Twisty story . Shocking ending .

Original storyline

Easy style and gripping twists, that you just don’t see coming. The main Character Rose is full of surprises and from the very beginning you are in their world.

TW - Hardly any of the story is about being in a cabin

This is written in the way that’s becoming really common for thrillers over recent years: one chapter in the present followed by the next in flashback. My issue with this book is that the part about her being in the cabin are so small (in the present) in contrast with the majority of the book being about far fetched domestic abuse, rape, gaslighting etc. I wouldn’t have bought the books if I’d known this was the storyline, so just warning other listeners. If you don’t mind that it’s passable, but really far fetched and the characters are pretty dull and two dimensional. However, domestic thrillers are totally not my cup of tea, and that’s what this book should have been promoted as in my opinion.
