Summary

Sometimes a damaged child becomes a broken man....

It’s 1954 and Adam Carter is 12 years old, an only child with no friends nor any self-confidence. His father Edward is a bully of a man. A successful and ruthless businessman, he breeds fear into the heart of his family. Adam’s mother Peggy is too cowed to protect her son, so Adam’s only support comes in the shape of Jake Wallis, the school bus driver.

One particular afternoon, when Adam is his last drop of the day, Jake decides to accompany him along the darkening wood land to his house, never suspecting that as they chat innocently, in the house at the end of the track a terrible tragedy is unfolding which will change Adam’s life forever.

A must have audio book

Utterly superb. Gripping, heartbreaking, mentally challenging to think in reality this does happen to so many children and as a story you won't want to stop listening. The characters are believable and brought to life with superb narration.
There are parts when the story moves on and you actually wish it could have been developed even more in certain areas, especially with the ending.

Highly recommend this story

Very enjoyable read

Where does The Broken Man rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

It rates highly as one of her better reads I can't say exactly were it comes as all her books are great but I didn't want it to finish.

What was one of the most memorable moments of The Broken Man?

I thought I had the story line all worked out then everything changes very well written.

What about Carole Boyd’s performance did you like?

She is a very good storyteller lots of expression, she really makes you are there in the story, and reads all the stories very well wouldn't be the same with anyone else reading Josephines books.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

I am a groomer and I love listening whilst grooming, better than listening to the radio and yes I would like to listen all in one sitting but then on the other hand I never wanted it to finish.

The Broken Man

I didn’t enjoy this book as much as the authors other books it brought you into the story then just went of on a completely different track with new characters. These characters eventually do come into the story at the very end of the book but felt it was slow then the felt the author rushed the end just to get the book finished.
