Summary

Dylan was six when The End came, back in 2018; when the electricity went off for good, and the 'normal' twenty-first century world he knew disappeared. Now he's 14 and he and his mam have survived in their isolated hilltop house above the village of Nebo in north-west Wales. Despite their close relationship, each has their own secrets, thoughts and memories, when emerge as, in turn, they write in a found notebook - the Blue Book of Nebo.

An incredible journey . Beautiful story telling. Honest, raw and authentic.

simply stunning. it's stayed with me. I didn't want The End to end. loved it. The relationship between mother and son is painfully beautiful.

Amazing and beautifully written

I cannot praise this author enough.
How the author wove the story around the welsh language and beauty of the landscape.

A well deserved plaudit for this Author. I look forward to her next book.

Simple raw beautiful storytelling

Simple beautiful disturbing relationship of mother and son in dystopian apocalyptic North Wales. Diolch yn fawr great read.

Exceptionally beautiful narration

Deftly written and powerfully beautiful. So much said and unsaid. I loved it and wasn't ready to say goodbye to these characters though I was happy to have joined them in this moment.

Mesmerising and beautifully read

I live on Anglesey so this story is extra vivid - I was often fearful, as a young person, of an accident at Wylfa, Manon has created two extraordinarily ’alive’ narrators, and the story itself is compelling, with life after The End imagined in sharply-focused detail. No wonder this book has won prizes! Bravo to the author. Llongyfarchiadau, Manon!

A Literary Welsh Post-Apocolyptic Gem

A small and perfectly formed literary novel of resilience and discovery firmly set in the language and landscape up above Nebo, near Bangor, in Wales…after The End.
Taut with unanswered questions, both the personal and regarding The End, the story moves along through the every day of subsistence living while the characters feel their way through the gloom of time-before baggage and post-end confusion by writing in turns in the book of the title name.
Really enjoyed this, great writing and a great story, would have been a page turner if I wasn’t listening to the audible version. More from Manon Steffan Ros please!

Beautiful and deeply thought provoking

As a half Welsh mum of a 14 year old son, I enjoyed this story at many different levels, but it wasn't always easy listening and there were a few times I had to stop to go find a tissue! My son is hoping to listen next and it will be interesting to get his take on this beautifully crafted narrative.

Arresting sense of place

This is post-apocalyptic, but not sci-fi and aliens- it reads like a love song to the landscape of Wales. Stripped of others, the characters look backwards to the time before ‘the end’ and compare it with their new reality. A novel about nature, survival, morality and what is really important in life.
