About this listen

A story by Edgar Allan Poe about a black cat, or rather two black cats. The narrator relates his own story about how he deteriorated from a man who loved animals to a cruel abuser. He thought that he had gotten away with murder, but the second black cat exposed his crime.

There are numerous audio versions of Poe's short story. The version that I chose cost only pennies and had the very striking cover, a!l black, apart from two cat eyes. Stunning, and worth several stars in it's own right.
Narration was by Gil Anders, who ha s a deep and resonant voice, perfect for the subject giving his first person recounting of the recent into an insanity greatly encouraged by gin. Mr.Anders' reading was dramatic and we'll intoned, though just a touch disjointed at times, but carried the passion of the macabre story.

The Black Cat story itself was pure Edgar Allan Poe.
