About this listen

The crew of the deep-sea exploration rig Leaguer discovers oil sweeter, purer, and easier to refine than the fields in Saudi Arabia. To confirm their own analysis of their trillion dollar find, a test barrel is flown from the drill site off the coast of Papua/New Guinea to Houston Analytical Laboratories (HAL).

As the unsuspecting scientists at HAL await the arrival of the oil, they ready their lab for what they know is an important job. They've seen the test results from Leaguer; this find could be history.

While the barrel is on its way to Houston, an "infection" breaks out on the far-away rig. As life aboard the rig descends into chaos, the scientists at HAL make their own discovery—what Leaguer found isn't oil.

Trapped in their labs, the scientists must find a way to fight a creature that defies chemistry, physics, and biology.

The Black: Arrival, a parallel story to the Amazon horror best seller The Black, is a compelling suspense novel that will fill you with claustrophobic dread.

Now that The Black has arrived, will humanity survive?

Cthulu Crossed With Aliens! Excellent

I really like Paul E Cooley. I listened to The Black series podcast narrated by the author and it’s one of my all time favourites. So I wasn’t sure about the book but turns out it’s great! Joe Hempel is a great narrator and delivers with panache. The story owes much to Cthulu Mythos but has the modern pace of Aliens and Predator. An excellent storyline with good characters and scene setting. All in all highly recommended.

Audiobook obsession reviewer, flock reviewer

I’m currently still creeped out and mourning the state of my nails after listening to this one. It was full of suspense and fear in the very best way. I could not pause this and found it to be full of suspense and mystery. The horror aspect of this was just so well done and the narrator continued to amaze me with their ability to bring me into the story. I am just so happy to have listened to this one.

The Black

This book is a ‘sequel’ kind of. It was pretty interesting and kept me listening. The narrator did a great job and gave some depth to the characters and the story. I look forward to seeing more from the author.

arrival

I have enjoyed the narration of Joe Hempel, who brought out the emotions, angst, fears, despair and action.

This book had me on the edge of my seat throughout. Inside a laboratory, the scientists are evaluating a specimen from depths of the ocean. They need to find out it's molecular makeup, and how will they contain it. You can fell the tensions. Soon the scientists are under the microscope and being hunted.
