Summary

The instant Sunday Times best seller from the star of Netflix's The Duchess, 8 Out of 10 Cats, Your Face or Mine and host of All That Glitters.

I've come to accept that being audacious is a gift I can't escape.

People 'know' my on-stage comedy persona or my scripted ballsy characters and wrongly assume that at home, I must stomp around all day in designer dresses eviscerating those who dare to cross my path and denouncing the existence of men in general. But mostly, I'm just sat eating pickles and being nice to some dogs.

Whatever strangers think of me is fine with me. How audacious is that? I can always take a joke, I don't waste time worrying about things I can't control and I have zero anxiety. I embrace the reality that you just can't please everyone, so you might as well put yourself out there and have a laugh. As my mother always said, 'Katherine, if we all liked the same thing, we'd all be married to your father'.

I'm often asked how I developed my lurid level of courage and assurance and for tips on how others can match. The Audacity is my chance to share my blueprint for just that. You will learn:

  • How to become the most popular girl in school.
  • How to waste all your money on designer dogs.
  • How to attract toxic men...and keep them interested!

And so much more.... Plus, secrets! Secrets are my favourite things to be told and I figured I'd better tell a few juicy ones myself. Why not? No matter what I do, there will always be something about me that reads as simply, outrageously audacious. And I wouldn't have it any other way.

As if that wasn't enough, this audiobook includes exclusive content from my mum, Julie McCarthy. It's amazing. It's like a book within the audiobook.

PLEASE NOTE: When you purchase this title, the accompanying PDF will be available in your Audible Library along with the audio.

Hilarity and lessons ensue

Katherine Ryan is one of my favourite comedians. So I had this book pre-ordered as soon as humanly possible.

When I get into comedians autobiographies, I somehow am surprised each time they delve into real gut-wrenching stories. Comedians are much in more in touch with their emotions, so this shouldn’t surprise me.
With this book though, I learned so much about the real dangers women face. Both physical, and mental. This book has literal murder in it, and a case of a man knowingly making a false (and potentially life ruining) accusation against someone purely for their mental anguish.

I always appreciate learning about others perspectives, especially when it’s a perspective I could never experience.

It’s great hearing Katherine’s voice here. She reads it as clearl as she performs on stage. I’m glad I picked up the audio book. The bonus content was a nice touch (Katherine’s mum should write a full autobiography)

Laughing at yourself is fun

Superstar Canadian / Irish comic Katherine Ryan has, like several other comedians, spent her COVID enforced lockdown year writing a book. Katherine Ryan is known for being audacious and saying things as they are and she pulls no punches in baring her soul and exposing some private moments in her life that many would want to keep under wraps. She talks openly and hilariously about her weird and wonderful past relationships and years as a struggling stand up in a way that only Katherine Ryan can get away with. She lives her life on the basis that not everyone is going to like her and that laughing at yourself is fun and if we were all to take inspiration from her then the world would undoubtedly be a happier place. This is the sort of book that will make you laugh out loud and will want to listen to more than once. Five stars.

Loved it even though its not my usual genre

i shall start by saying i normally listen to scifi novels, almost exclusively. however, i downloaded this on a whim after i read a review that basically said "women shouldnt be allowed to write books" and so purchased this as a fuck you to that guy. normally a 10hour(ish) book will last me a week, however i blew through this in 2 days while explaining to my gf every 3 or 4 minutes why i am chuckling.

Really enjoyable listen

I really enjoyed listening to this. I’ve listened to a fair few comedian’s books on audible but this was the most enjoyable. Katherine’s delivery was so good and didn’t sound like she was reading a book which I’ve found with a few other comedians. Honest, funny, enjoyable - exactly what I wanted!

Conceited is a much better title!

Never heard anything like it - thankfully.
Worth it for the laugh at just how conceited this woman is. With her being perfect, her husband being perfect (looking forward to the inevitably perfect divorce!), her children being perfect, her whole family being perfect and living perfect lives. It’s hysterical. But the best laugh is at the end where her even more conceited, man hating mother is allowed to tell us how perfect her daughter is too. As well as giving her “advice” on how people should lead their lives. Don’t know about Sarnia but I’m pretty sure this woman is from Narnia!
PS, having an Irish father does not make you Irish sweetie, no matter how much you want to be!

Audacious

Absolutely loved it. It was inspiring, uplifting, thought provoking, hilarious. It made me laugh and cry and the extra section from Katherine Ryan’s mum is brilliant too
