About this listen

The secrets of creative thinking by a lecturer at the world-famous St. Martin's College of Art who has spent a lifetime researching innovative thinkers.

A scuba-diving company faces bankruptcy because sharks have infested the area. Solution? Open the world's first extreme diving school.

The Art of Creative Thinking reveals how we can transform ourselves, our businesses, and our society through a deeper understanding of human creativity. Rod Judkins, of the world-famous St. Martin's College of Art, has studied successful creative thinkers from every walk of life throughout history. Drawing on an extraordinary range of reference points - from the Dada manifesto to Nobel Prize-winning economists, from Andy Warhol's studio to Einstein's desk - he distills a lifetime's expertise into a succinct, surprising book that will inspire you to think more confidently and creatively.

You'll realise why you should be happy when your train is cancelled; meet the most successful class in educational history (in which every single student won a Nobel prize); discover why graphic nudity during public speaking can be both a hindrance and surprisingly persuasive; and learn why, in the 21st century, it's technically illegal to be as good as Michelangelo.

Be stubborn about compromise. Plan to have more accidents. Be mature enough to be childish. Contradict yourself more often. Discover the art of creative thinking.

Changed the way I think

It really changed the way I think. I considered, that to be super organised and efficient is the way to achieve my goals and dreams. In reality I was just fighting my humanity by trying becoming a robot in over scheduled day.
My best take away, "define rules and live in chaos". You will not find this quote in book, this is what I realised for myself. I cannot control life fully, I can just define my rules and live in chaos. Be creative, be brave and remember you live only once!

Inspiration Bible

It is like a more accessible Oblique Strategies with a few more bells and whistles.
Read/listen to it from cover to cover, open a random page/stick it on shuffle, follow the suggested chapters down there rabbit hole. It doesn't matter which way you prefer to ingest the bitesize lessons.
It's full of contradictions, but that's OK. If one way doesn't work for you, maybe the opposite approach will help.
I'll be keeping this on my device and buying the book for easy access whenever it is needed.

A book you can go back to over and over again!

This book really helped me identify some of the things I already do creatively, as well as uncover some new approaches that have definitely helped shake things up.

The short chapters are brilliant for quick reading and the topics covered pull from the experiences and methodologies of some of the most creative people to have ever walked the face of the planet.

I would highly recommend this book and would say just read it with a completely open mind.

Great to dip in and out of for motivation

I really enjoyed the format of this audio book with an 'agree or disagree?' option at the end of each chapter which saw me hopping throughout the book to follow up theories on creativity and productivity and their counter theories. Easy to dip into when walking or doing the dishes and a nice reminder that there's not one right way to do life!

Tosh but interesting

A load of old tosh, but none the less still quite inspiring. Lots of antidotes and ideas on how to be creative which is based around famous people. I'm sure some of the ideas are good, but there is no substance behind any of them.
