About this listen

What is your art really about? Where is it going? What stands in the way of getting it there? These are questions that matter, questions that recur at each stage of artistic development - and they are the source for this volume of wonderfully incisive commentary.

Art & Fear explores the way art gets made, the reasons it often doesn't get made, and the nature of the difficulties that cause so many artists to give up along the way. This is a book about what it feels like to sit in your studio or classroom, at your wheel or keyboard, easel or camera, trying to do the work you need to do. It is about committing your future to your own hands, placing free will above predestination, choice above chance. It is about finding your own work.

Deeply philosophical and practically applicable

This book is filled with thoughtful considerations related to the practice of art making. Provoking and encouraging artists to keep on, push through and not surrender to fear. Definitely a book I will listen to frequently.

No nonsense straight talk for artists

Stuffed with wisdom and practical observations from one who has been there and come out the other side. This is very helpful to all artists in every genre. Definitely would recommend to all my artist friends!

A must for any creative person

I am yet to come across a more useful, life-affirming and motivational book. A positive, yet realistic guide to creative practice (and not without a touch of humour) The authors are clearly expert in subject and in education. Recommended with the highest praise!!!!!

Deep, requires concentrated attention.

This book has so much to give but you must listen well. Play and play again to take it all in. The narrator is measured, paced but slightly monotone. this does however add to his ironic and sometimes to the point approach of the contents. I'm so glad I've listened to this book, it tells it straight but do listen. the authors really know what they're talking about. Well worth purchasing.

Completely mind blowing and inspiring

A collection of interlinking ideas that have helped me find inner peace in the process of artmaking. Also great for listening to while painting

Brilliant!

I discovered this book a few years ago and keep coming back! It has great pointers to silence the barking dog of doubt and fear. It literally helps me every time. I’ve recommended this book to everyone I know who is an creative.

Such an honest take.

This book is a gift. As an artist beset by all the questions it accurately raise, I found myself glued to this. For non creative this will give you a fantastic view through the window and maybe a little pause to look inside, too.
More than that, I found it a call to arms. A reminder that only you, at this particular accident in time can ‘describe’ how you see the world. Helping us all.
Highly recommend.
Thank you!

Outstanding

This is a brilliant listen directed at artists and creatives of all disciplines (but with an emphasis on painting, music and photography). I found it to be captivating from start to finish and it helped me to solve a few negative perfectionistic habits I have been trying to understand and overcome.
