Summary

Beaten and battered in mind and body, the fugitives limp west, unaware that the human world is fading all around them, unaware that the last remnants of the goodness of man is being ground under the heel of evil at every turn. When confronted with that evil, fight or flight are their only choices, however, Neil's small group is hamstrung, forced to take on more refugees who come to them empty-handed, unarmed, and hungry. Neil is faced with the disturbing prospect of guiding them across 2,000 miles of zombie-plagued land, only to stumble at his first hurdle: the mighty Mississippi has become a river of death and, like the fabled River Styx, the only way to pass is to pay the river man his fee. His price: warm bodies.

10/10 the best series you will ever listen to!

Never have I read such an amazing book series like the apocalypse series, the story is so different from your typical zombie stories, they are definitely by far the best books I've ever read and I can't recommend them enough. Amazing work from the author. Great story lines twists and cliff hangers when reading/listening, I'm checking audible every few days to see if book 5 is on there yet, I hope it's soon as I'm going crazy needing to find out what happens next!

Amazing!

I have just finished this and I have to say this is the best Zombie Series. The characters are all well defined and nobody is safe from death. I have listened to these on Audible and the narration is outstanding. Every character has a distinct voice. Plenty of zombies but this series is more focused on individual human characters and their struggle to survive in a completely changed world. This rag tag group pick up other survivors on their way. Just amazing!

Brilliant, I say! Brilliant!

This may be my favorite so far. Jillybean is once again at her peak performance! I love when a new character meets her and at first they think she's mental, and maybe a bit she is, but then they need her to save their lives!

Once again the audio in this is impeccable. I am so glad that Peter Meredith has stuck with Basil Sands throughout the series. Now that I am comfortable with all of the characters and their voices, another narrator would totally throw me off. Basil, yet again, sets a standard for which other audiobooks will be judged. The voices are on point, as are each inflection. I can never tell when the story is getting into a crescendo because Basil and Peter have me so sucked in, that everyone and everything else around me are null and void.

In this fourth book, Peter Meredith has continued right along with the series. He has added to the series with each book, so these must be read in order. Besides that, the characters are so fantastic that you will want to read them in order to get a real understanding of each of the characters. Especially since new characters are coming in all the time.

This one took me a bit longer to get into. It was not because the plot was not there, because it was, but because I had to give myself time. This starts at the same intensity that some books crescendo at! Intense does not even really embody how crazy this gets.

I do love the new characters. Some of them are a bit prissy. They have been taken care of and as such expect to be treated a certain way. They do not even know how to kill zombies. AND they judge Neil and Jillybean. Rude!

This one is hard to review without spoilers. I can say that this is my absolute favorite. The characters, the drama, the intensity! The plot is amazing. Once again ends on a huge cliff hangers with lives in the balance! Brilliantly done.

The only thing you'll want to do after reading this, is read the next one. Brilliant, I say! Brilliant!

Same story line

This is where I'm taking a break in the series. I actually already own the next 2 books, but it's been the very same story line since book 2. Someone gets kidnapped or is held hostage and the others have to save him or her. It's the same story over and over. In this book, someone gets kidnapped, they're rescued. Then others are kidnapped and they have to be rescued. Then yet again, more are kidnapped and they must be rescued. Then the book ends as one group is rescued, but the others are AGAIN held hostage. (There were so many kidnapping and rescues that I honestly lost count) You have to get the next book to see how the current hostages are rescued. At this point, I just don't care.
If Grey is the new Ram, give him some cajones and stop letting him wither every time the main bad guy tells him "if you don't give yourself up, I'll kill everyone." The whole "let's go talk to the bad guy and even though he's a slaver, torturer, rapist, sells babies to pedophiles, etc., I'm sure he'll be honest and keep his word........oh, he lied to us last time and took us hostage to torture us, but this time he'll keep his word and not capture us.......oh shucks, he took us hostage again and we escaped, but THIS TIME he'll keep his word, so let's go back and discuss this with him again" story line is just STUPID.
Oh, and there's very very little zombie action in this book.
Narrator did a superb job, as always.
And lastly, I love the new female character. I hope she sticks around.

Jillybean!

great narrator!! of all the zombie apocalypse audible titles I've listened to (there are a lot of good ones) , this series has posibly the best story and certainly the best character development. These apocalyptic stories are often more about the human condition and response to crisis than they are about the "horror and gore" and Meredith has really nailed it with this series, you can't help but root for these characters and their struggle.

Wonderful entry to an awesome series

As always, it seems, Peter Meredith knocks it out of the park. Each book in the apocalypse series has kept me wanting more, and in this case it is no different. The action, the dialogue, the realism and growth of the characters is all very natural and not forced. The performance by Basil Sands, was fantastic. His performance really brings home the characters and I personally cannot imagine the series without his skills as a voice actor! 5 stars all around!

Can't wait to listen to book 5

What made the experience of listening to The Apocalypse Fugitives the most enjoyable?

I grabbed me the moment I started listening to it. I can't help be feel for the characters. I think that is most important. If a person doesn't care about the characters then it's not worth reading or in this case, listening to.

What did you like best about this story?

Possibly the introduction of a new character by going back to the island.

Have you listened to any of Basil Sands’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

I really enjoy Basil Sands voice. I'm very happy he continues to perform for this series.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

I wanted to savior the book but could help but listen to it for hours at a time. I finished it way too fast. I'm disappointed book 5 isn't on audible yet.

Any additional comments?

Don't make me wait too long for book 5 on audible please. I'm always on the go so don't always have time to just sit and read. Listening to books has become so something I really enjoy and this author is worth the buy.

Addicting -- That's what means, excellent series!

Would you consider the audio edition of The Apocalypse Fugitives to be better than the print version?

I wouldn't know, since I have only experienced the audio version.

What other book might you compare The Apocalypse Fugitives to and why?

Any other book in "The Undead World" series (obviously). Other than that, any Apocalypse book which features (mainly, anyway) civvies as opposed to the usual military or prepper types as main characters. The Mountain Man series is a favorite of mine.

Which scene was your favorite?

Probably when Jillybean bails everyone out at the Piggly Wiggly.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

Not necessarily.

Any additional comments?

Can't wait for part 5 to be released on Audible. That's what means, I don't actually read books anymore and consume all of my book content via audio books these days. :)
