Summary

Brought to you by Penguin.

A must-have guide to optimizing your life for wealth and success, from bestselling author, NYU professor and Pivot podcast co-host Scott Galloway

Today's workers have more opportunities and mobility than any previous generation. They also face unprecedented challenges, including inflation, labour and housing shortages, and climate volatility.

Even the notion of 'retirement' is undergoing a profound rethink, as our lifespans extend and our relationship with work evolves. In this environment, the tried-and-true financial advice our parents followed no longer applies. It's time for a new playbook.

In The Algebra of Wealth, Galloway lays bare the rules of financial success in today's economy. In characteristic unvarnished, no-BS style, he explains you what you need to know in order to improve your chances of achieving economic security no matter what. You'll learn:

  • How to find and follow your talent, not your passion, when making career decisions
  • How to ride and optimize big economic waves (hard truth: market dynamics always trump individual achievement)
  • What small steps you can take that pay big returns later, including diversification and tax planning
  • How stoicism can help you minimize spending and develop better financial habits

Bursting with practical, game-changing advice from one of the world's most popular business school professors, The Algebra of Wealth is the practical guidebook you need to win today's wealth game.

Too focused on US Economy

Understandable that the book is more narrowed to people in US, but the 401k talk and so on seems to specific to apply them in Sweden, therefore that part seems kinda off

Massively US Focused

Really interesting to listen to but switches from being a general “how to achieve wealth” to “how to achieve wealth just in the USA” about 65% of the way through .

Enjoyable advice

I’m definitely recommending this to my teenage kids and college students. Very useful for choosing a career. Less pertinent to my generation but still useful advice regarding mentorship and investment

Scott is a fantastic communicator and master of wealth

Absolutely brilliant content and would recommend to anyone starting out. My only complaint was that it’s focused on the US economy. If you want another great book focused on the UK economy I’d recommend “The intelligent investor” by Benjamin Graham, both books supplement each other well.

Great sound financial advice that is succinct

I like that fact he took time to give advice surrounding philosophy, gave pragmatic examples and broke down complex financial terms into simple understandable bits. Giving examples from his own life and other observed lives makes the whole book relatable. It is a great and one I will definitely fall back to as a manual on my journey pf attaining economic stability and freedom.

Good as an "intro to" book

this is a great book for those just startng out, or maybe mid-career and looking to start investing and thinking about long term planning.

it's pretty light though on anything beyond introductory topics.

A brilliant listen for someone who already has a little understanding of finance and looking for that next step.

Scott’s best book. Some others have felt opportunistic and him meeting a book deal quota but this strikes a wonderful balance of all the things he cares about and it shows. He gets to teach, he gets to talk about finance and most importantly he gets to give real life examples of how strategies and systems have played out for him.

I get a feeling he has a deep sense of pride from certain parts. I’ve listened to Scott for maybe 7 years and without coming off as a parasocial nutjob I see he takes such pride in mentioning how he was empowered to give his mother a good death or how he gets to be a great dad or how he’s very bold about his loses. I can’t help but feel a connection with this book or I guess Scott to a degree because I myself take a lot of pride in owning my loses.

Sorry that was a bit off topic ha but Scott’s financial advice is great for a ton of people, especially given this new age of finance conscious young millennials
