Summary

For Dr. David Beck, the loss was shattering. And every day for the past eight years, he has relived the horror of what happened. The gleaming lake. The pale moonlight. The piercing screams. The night his wife was taken. The last night he saw her alive.

Everyone tells him it's time to move on, to forget the past once and for all. But for David Beck, there can be no closure. A message has appeared on his computer, a phrase only he and his dead wife know. Suddenly Beck is taunted with the impossible—that somewhere, somehow, Elizabeth is alive.

Beck has been warned to tell no one. And he doesn't. Instead, he runs from the people he trusts the most, plunging headlong into a search for the shadowy figure whose messages hold out a desperate hope.

But already Beck is being hunted down. He's headed straight into the heart of a dark and deadly secret—and someone intends to stop him before he gets there.

This was SO compelling! (and I’m very fussy!)

I really needed a good story and this was it. The narrator is one of the best I have ever heard, and I am a very fussy audible fan. Congratulations. This is the first time I’ve ever left a review. That’s how pleased I was with the experience! :)

Harlen C doesn’t waste a sentence.

Wow what a story

I love this book. It was so well written all the twists and turns meant you never really knew where it was heading. I would definitely read another book from the author. I didn't really like the narrator's soft American accent but that is just my personal preference. I stuck with it and l am so glad that l did. It was just really interesting right up to the very end. FABULOUS. Read it, you will enjoy!

Gripping story, couldn't put it down

This is not my go to genre of books, but how glad I am I got it! Thrilling, exciting and well built story with many unexpected twists. Narration was brilliant and gave it all an extra push, for me 10 out of 10.

Glad I listened to this!

For some reason, that I don’t really understand, I’ve been avoiding books written & narrated by Americans but was tempted by this one. So glad I was, I was totally immersed in the story & enjoyed the narration.

Wow, a mind blowing adventure!

This is one of the most exciting books I have read. From start to finish you can’t help but be emotionally immersed. The storyline weaves through murder and corruption leaving you desperate to find out how the author will eventually resolve all the problems.
Absolutely recommend.

good story well told

the mandatory twists are fair enough but the way the characters are drawn and the gripping story overall are what made this such an enjoyable listen.

Great story and performance

Interesting and gripping with fantastic narrator. I have read a few Harlan Coben books and this was by far the best. Complex and sympathetic characters, not predictable, really good.
